She choreographed Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s Cowboy Carter Tour as well as recent tours for Lamar, Dua Lipa and the Weeknd. This year, La\u2019Donna\u2019s work scored her two Emmy nominations for outstanding choreography for variety or reality programming for Beyonc\u00e9 Bowl and Lamar\u2019s halftime show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>More from TheWrap<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The double nominations in the category, which also includes nods to Doechii\u2019s Grammy performance, \u201cThe Lion King\u201d at the Hollywood Bowl and the Oscars\u2019 tributes to James Bond and Quincy Jones, was an awe-striking moment for La\u2019Donna, who long considered the accolade from the TV Academy a career goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI was in shock \u2014 I was stopped in my tracks,\u201d La\u2019Donna said of receiving the nominations. \u201cEvery project is special. Every project is a piece of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"ct:story;elm:img;itc:0;\" class=\"stretched-box\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/join-pro\/?utm_source=article&amp;utm_medium=site&amp;utm_campaign=articlePROpromo&amp;utm_id=070825\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"relative\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"247\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/C8zH.0YH3.WF7yVlrIECaQ--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTk2MDtoPTI0NztjZj13ZWJw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/thewrap.com\/9c7d0b3beed6f4c9b7c5e1d24c6e24d4\"\/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Whether she\u2019s choreographing for Lamar or Dua Lipa, La\u2019Donna said she approaches each project with several \u201cingredients,\u201d which include bringing herself and her prior experiences to the table and feeling the music and the presence of dancers. The last step, however, is always embracing the fun and enjoyment in these dream jobs, as La\u2019Donna strives to acknowledge \u201cI\u2019m blessed to be able to create on such a platform all around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">La\u2019Donna especially leans on her past experiences as \u201ctools and skills,\u201d saying \u201cas artists, [and] as just people in general, we go through life and we learn. We take our experiences into our next journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The choreographer was certainly able to draw from her past experiences while working on Lamar\u2019s halftime show, having had her first Super Bowl gig as a dancer for the Black Eyed Peas in 2011. At the time, La\u2019Donna was under the direction of her mentor Fatima Robinson, who is one of four Black women to ever be nominated in a choreography category at the Emmys, alongside Debbie Allen, Chlo\u00e9 Arnold and, now, La\u2019Donna.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI\u2019ve been on the field before, but in a different space,\u201d La\u2019Donna said. \u201cThere were a lot of dancers on the field and a lot of colors \u2014 it was a task.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"relative\"><img alt=\"US rapper Kendrick Lamar performs during Super Bowl LIX Chiefs vs Eagles Apple Music Halftime Show at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, February 9, 2025.
