Weird and wonderful names dominate the celebrity sphere – but with unique monikers comes the difficulty of people outside your circle having to pronounce them.<\/p>\n

While traditional royal<\/a> names, like Charlotte<\/a>, Elizabeth, and Victoria, are extremely easy for English<\/a> speakers to pronounce, some others, like Leilani, Kiani and even Regina, can be a bit trickier.<\/p>\n

Another royal alias that has had fans puzzled since 1990 is Princess Eugenie<\/a>, Mrs Jack Brooksbank.<\/p>\n

The youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York<\/a>, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York<\/a>, has a particularly difficult name to pronounce; in the past, she admitted that her friends don\u2019t even call her by it.<\/p>\n

Princess Eugenie of York, born on March 30 at Portland Hospital in London, is named after her great-aunt Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and later Queen of Spain.<\/p>\n

According to William Hill, they\u2019d taken thousands of bets from fans on what the royal baby would be called ahead of the announcement – none of which cited Eugenie.<\/p>\n

At her birth, she was sixth in line to the British throne. She has since dropped to twelfth in the line of succession.<\/p>\n

How to pronounce Princess Eugenie\u2019s name<\/h2>\n

People have been known to refer to the royal as \u2018YOO-jee-nee\u2019, \u2018YOO-junny\u2019, as well as the name\u2019s male counterpart, Eugene (Yoo-JEEN).<\/p>\n

In a 2008 interview with The Telegraph, it was reported<\/a> that Eugenie was pronounced \u2018YOO-juh-nee\u2019.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re saying it out loud, then make sure to put emphasis on the \u2018yoo\u2019.<\/p>\n

When royals name their offspring, they must follow a handful of rules.<\/p>\n

These include not giving their child an official surname and often bestowing on them at least three first names.<\/p>\n

For example, Princess Eugenie\u2019s son, August Philip Hawke, and all three of the Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019 children have three monikers.<\/p>\n

It is possible to give your royal child more names, with William, Prince of Wales<\/a> and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex<\/a>, having four each.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s alleged the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II thought \u2018Annabel\u2019 too yuppie<\/a>, with the then-new parents landing on Beatrice Elizabeth Mary after her guidance.<\/p>\n

Debate sparked about Prince Louis\u2019 name<\/h2>\n

The pronouncement of Princess Eugenie\u2019s name isn\u2019t the only royal child to leave fans scratching their heads.<\/p>\n

When Prince Louis<\/a> was born in 2018, the youngest child of Kate Middleton and William baffled social media users; they didn\u2019t know how \u2018Louis\u2019 should sound.<\/p>\n

Some said they should be calling him \u2018Lew-is\u2019, akin to F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, while others claimed \u2018LOO-i\u2019, like fashion<\/a> brand Louis Vuitton, sounded better.<\/p>\n

The young Prince is officially named after Lord Louis Mountbatten, the uncle of the late Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was assassinated by the IRA.<\/p>\n

This means the correct pronunciation is \u2018Loo-ee\u2019, with a silent S.<\/p>\n
