If you are looking for a soundtrack to get you going on Labor Day Weekend, here\u2019s a reminder that Bruce Springsteen\u2019s \u201cBorn to Run\u201d was released 50 years ago this week \u2014 and its vitality and eloquence are undiminished.<\/p>\n
Set against a backdrop of Vietnam War fatigue, economic malaise and the then-shocking Watergate corruption scandal that toppled a president, \u201cBorn to Run\u201d was a collection of short stories written by a guy who grew up lower middle-class and seemed to have lived them.<\/p>\n
Cinematic songs such as \u201cThunder Road,\u201d \u201cTenth Avenue Freeze-out,\u201d \u201cJungleland,\u201d \u201cMeeting Across the River\u201d and the under-appreciated \u201cNight\u201d were anthems for the marginalized, the lonely and the disillusioned. Springsteen\u2019s protagonist got his hands dirty, drove hand-me-down cars on two-lanes that could take us anywhere \u2014 not in search of some toxic, self-imposed exile, but to find connection, to get the girl who would inspire \u201cShe\u2019s the One.\u201d<\/p>\n

Think blink:<\/strong> Unbreakable pop-punk trio blink-182<\/strong> will begin their North American Missionary Impossible 2025 Tour<\/strong> on Thursday, squeezing their arena-size sound into the intimate confines of Hard Rock Live<\/strong> in Hollywood<\/strong>. Along with hits such as \u201cAll the Small Things,\u201d \u201cWhat\u2019s My Age Again?\u201d and \u201cThe Rock Show,\u201d the set will feature music from \u201cOne More Time,\u201d the first studio album in more than a decade with trio Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLong<\/strong> and Travis Barker<\/strong>. The April 5 concert joins previous sellouts on April 2, April 3 and April 6, all of which will feature music from his album \u201cSeco<\/strong>,\u201d released in January. The waterfront fun will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Great Lawn and Centennial Square and include cheeseburgers, island bites, a margarita bar (including $20 margarita flights), plus limbo and trivia contests to win prizes.
