In a recent appearance on No Jumper<\/em> with Adam22, the late West Coast rapper\u2019s father expressed his lack of regard for Kendrick\u2019s sound, but noted the seemingly glaring similarities<\/a> behind Lamar\u2019s recent tracks and his son\u2019s music.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a big Kendrick Lamar person listening to his music, I\u2019m really picky with music just being a musician and all that. But I heard this one song of his, and I\u2019m like \u2018Wait.\u2019 I didn\u2019t know if I was listening to a Drakeo song that I just didn\u2019t hear yet. I\u2019m like, \u2018oh, this is one of my son\u2019s songs that I haven\u2019t heard yet,’\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n He went on to describe the similarities in striking detail, pointing to core elements of Kendrick\u2019s delivery, particularly on his GNX<\/em> album<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe rhyme pattern, the syncopation, all of that was the same; the flow, everything was the same. Now, as far as him giving him the props, maybe it was a politics thing,\u201d said Drakeo\u2019s dad.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know what I\u2019m saying? \u2018I can\u2019t be trying to go on that bandwagon right now with what I\u2019m trying to do. I\u2019m trying to make this positive movement, you know, right now with these rappers and this rap stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cAnd if I, you know, shout out Drakeo, you know, and just let people know I\u2019m using this flow, that might be bad for what I\u2019m trying to do.\u2019 So, I can understand it on that level, but at some point, you got to keep it real.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans have also taken to social media echoing these sentiments, with some suggesting that Kendrick\u2019s recent chart-topping GNX<\/em> album reflects stylistic elements pioneered by Drakeo\u2014particularly his off-kilter rhyme schemes, deadpan delivery, and regional slang.<\/p>\n Drakeo the Ruler, born Darrell Caldwell, was widely celebrated for reshaping the sound of Los Angeles street rap with his unique cadence and sharp wit.<\/p>\n Despite legal battles and time behind bars, he built a cult following through mixtapes like Cold Devil<\/em> and Thank You for Using GTL<\/em>. Tragically, his life was cut short in December 2021 after he was fatally stabbed backstage<\/a> at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival.
