Pedro Pascal<\/a><\/strong> is replacing Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> in Todd Haynes<\/a>\u2019 new movie.<\/p>\n Haynes is working on a new gay romance movie titled De Noche<\/a>. The film, however, ran into trouble last year when Phoenix abruptly dropped out of the project. It is still unclear why the Joker actor suddenly backed out.<\/p>\n Per Deadline<\/a>, however, De Noche is now back on as Pascal is circling the role that was previously going to be played by Phoenix.<\/p>\n \u201cPascal would join Danny Ramirez, who was originally attached to the project,\u201d Deadline\u2019s article notes. \u201cThey\u2019ll play two men in love who leave Los Angeles for Mexico, the feature set in the 1930s. Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler\u2019s Killer Films is producing. Killer recently worked with Pascal on A24\u2019s summer romantic comedy\u00a0Materialists.\u201d<\/p>\n Production on De Noche is expected to begin in 2026 in Guadalajara, Mexico.<\/p>\n Vachon was vocal about Phoenix\u2019s sudden departure. She said<\/a> at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 2024, \u201cTodd Haynes is 62. He\u2019s not old, but there\u2019s a finite number of films that he will be able to do in his lifetime. I consider him one of the most extraordinary film artists of his generation. The idea that his time was wasted and a movie is not the result of all that time working with Joaquin is a tragedy to me\u2026That I can\u2019t get over.
