Madi Prewett<\/strong><\/a> and her husband, Grant Troutt<\/strong>, dealt with an unexpected gas leak at the beginning of their marriage and the start of home ownership.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learned a lot in our first year of marriage, [including] how to manage a home,\u201d Prewett, 29, said on the Monday, August 25, episode of her \u201cStay True\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cIt just seemed like there was problem after problem, and we could not figure out what was going on with our home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prewett and Troutt, also 29, have been married<\/a> since October 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was, like, mold in our shower [and] there were a lot of bug problems,\u201d she recalled. \u201cWe also had a huge field behind our house that they were developing, so I think there were extra bugs everywhere. Then, our bathroom shower leaked everywhere [and] we were having drainage problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite these small household issues, she and Troutt couldn\u2019t figure out what caused the \u201cbiggest\u201d home-related problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time we were in our house, we would feel all these symptoms like nausea, headaches, fatigue,\u201d the Bachelor Nation alum recalled. \u201cWe knew something was off because as soon as we would leave our house, we would feel so much better [and] everything would go back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cEvery time we could get into our house, we would feel so sick<\/a>. Grant was getting so frustrated \u2018cause he was experiencing a little more than me. I [had a] mild headache and maybe a little bit of nausea, and he was experiencing severe headaches, was very tired and [was] super sick.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prewett and Troutt thought that the issue could have been mold-related, so they hired specialists to examine the property and test the water. Troutt eventually suggested that the couple call a plumber to check out the house, too.<\/p>\n

Madi, who finished as runner-up on Peter Weber\u2019s season of The Bachelor\u00a0in 2020, married Grant Troutt, a pastor, in July 2022. The couple welcomed their first baby, daughter Hosanna Rose, in January 2025. Prior to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c[The plumber\u2019s] first thing was [to say], \u2018I\u2019m going to pull out my gas detector to see if you have gas in your house,\u2019\u201d Prewett remembered. \u201cHe gets to our living room and [his beeper] is going crazy. He was like, \u2018Did you turn your fireplace on? When you\u2019re not using it, do you turn it back off?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Prewett explained that she and Troutt would operate the fireplace via a \u201clittle remote control.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was like, \u2018No, there\u2019s a turnkey on the side [and] you have to manually turn it off when you\u2019re not using it otherwise gas is just going to fill your house,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cWe had not turned it off since we moved into the house. It had been on for three months straight.\u201d<\/p>\n
