Former Harry Potter director Chris Columbus has no interest in joining HBO’s upcoming television remake<\/a> of the beloved franchise.<\/p>\n Columbus already made his mark on the Wizarding World, having helmed the first two movies<\/a> and produced the third installment more than two decades ago.<\/p>\n “No, I’ve done it, you saw my version,” he told Variety<\/a> while promoting Netflix’s Thursday Murder Club <\/a>in London. “There’s nothing left for me to do in the world of Potter.”<\/p>\n Despite his reluctance to return behind the camera for Hogwarts adventures, the filmmaker endorses bringing the magical universe back to television screens.<\/p>\n “The great thing about it is that with the first and second and third book, we wanted to do it all. We wanted to bring all of that onto the screen, and we didn’t have the opportunity,” Columbus explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Chris also revealed the “pride” that the original lead Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, brought him, considering the man he became as an adult.<\/p>\n He noted that numerous protective measures were implemented on the Harry Potter set to shield Daniel and his young castmates after witnessing what occurred with Macaulay Culkin during Home Alone.<\/p>\n “We learned a valuable lesson on ‘Home Alone,’ so when David Heyman and I got into Potter, I said to him, ‘We need to cast the parents as well as the children. We have to make sure that the parents can be prepared for what’s about to happen, particularly with Potter,'” Chris revealed.<\/p>\n He ocontinued, “We knew that the eyes of the world would be on these three kids and they thankfully had just wonderful parents who helped them deal with what I can’t even imagine the pressures are of suddenly your face being everywhere. So we were hoping that the kids would turn out as well as they did.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Chris concluded, “There’s a sense of pride to see Daniel Radcliffe win a Tony Award. It was just remarkable. Seeing him on stage and seeing how incredibly talented he is as a musical comedic actor was just very moving for me.”<\/p>\n While the controversial views on transgender identity expressed by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, may not be the reason Chris is hesitant to participate in a reboot, he openly disagrees with her stance.<\/p>\n “I like to sometimes separate the artist from the art, I think that’s important to do,” he said. “It’s unfortunate, what’s happened. I certainly don’t agree with what she’s talking about.
