The two of us chatted amicably about the band\u2019s upcoming tour, his career highlights and the origins of the all-timer classic \u201cTakin\u2019 Care of Business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What can I say? It\u2019s a good read. We had fun.<\/p>\n<p>However, what <em>isn\u2019t<\/em> noted in that piece is that, for the first and only time in my journalistic career, I had my dad sit in and listen.<\/p>\n<p>He was on an overseas cruise at the time but couldn\u2019t miss the opportunity to make small talk with the frontman for his all-time favorite band. For our 25 minutes together, I got to see my pops turn into a 19-year-old fan again when he told Randy \u201cI used to listen to \u2018Let It Ride\u2019 in my room back in 1974.\u201d Truly a magical experience.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, BTO\u2019s tour didn\u2019t swing through Arizona \u2014\u00a0where my dad lives \u2014\u00a0in 2024. Thankfully, the group did schedule a stop at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vividseats.com\/we-ko-pa-casino-resort-tickets\/venue\/28053?utm_source=nypost.com&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=article-embedded&amp;wsUser=1006\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">We-Ko-Pa Casino<\/a> in Fort McDowell on Friday, Aug. 22.<\/p>\n<p>And, he went with my mom.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, I wanted to hear their review of the show.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the concert, per my request, my folks \u201ctook care of business\u201d and sent a flurry of texts to me (68 in fact) about the night.<\/p>\n<p>With that, I give you a true Bachman-Turner Overdrive superfan\u2019s thoughts \u2014\u00a0sent via text message \u2014\u00a0about what it\u2019s like to see the band live in \u201925.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">My dad\u2019s thoughts on seeing BTO in concert<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Right out of the gate, pops was onboard with the live show.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cGreat guitar solo on the first song,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> he sent at 8:04 p.m. Four minutes in and he was already jamming.<\/p>\n<p>Three minutes later, I received <strong><em>\u201cRandy\u2019s solos are the best part<\/em><\/strong>. <strong><em>He has a nice, high-pitched, pleasant voice. So good and \u2018Rock Is My Life\u2019 has a great beat.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I felt a sense of relief; it was so nice to hear that the show my dad been wanting to go to for years lived up to the hype.<\/p>\n<p>Still, he found time to send \u201c<strong><em>the auditorium is nicely air conditioned. A little cool just enough to keep us seniors awake at 8:30 p.m.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Classic.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter, the band put on a slideshow looking back at the group\u2019s history, which is standard for classic rock shows these days (take it from me, I just saw The Who and Frankie Valli this past month). Since my dad\u2019s been a fan for half a century, he got a bit nostalgic.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThe movie behind them from the 70s was great. It was cool to see them young and having fun.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And, even though he\u2019d clearly been having fun, my old man really came to life when he heard the band\u2019s Guess Who medley.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cGuess Who is awesome,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> he messaged me. <strong><em>\u201cThe guy singing \u2018No Sugar Tonight\u2019 has a nice voice and plays the organ and guitar.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once \u201cNo Time\u201d hit though, he was fully onboard.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cBest song yet with everybody singing,\u201d <\/em><\/strong>my dad texted. <strong><em>\u201cThey are best when all four guys are singing. Great harmonies.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After that rapturous effort, the group shifted back to BTO\u2019s catalog and dropped \u201cLookin\u2019 Out For #1.\u201d Memories flooded in.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI remember listening to this on my record player in my room in 1974,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> he said. <strong><em>\u201cSame solo but different with more reverb.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> He was equally impressed by \u201cAmerican Woman,\u201d which had a <strong><em>\u201cvery good guitar solo.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this point in the show, Randy handed the reins over to his son Tal to deliver his 1999 hit \u201cShe\u2019s So High.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWhat an awesome song,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> he raved. <strong><em>\u201cHis son is very humble and cool. A great singer.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now on a roll, my dad messaged excitedly when he heard the first strings of \u201cLet It Ride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cAnother great one from 1972,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> he sent. <strong><em>\u201cThe two other guys doing woo woo harmonies were great.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Per usual, the band finished strong with \u201cYou Ain\u2019t Seen Nothin\u2019 Yet,\u201d a classic rock medley (he added \u201cthe bassist is great singing Free\u2019s \u2018Alright Now&#8217;\u201d) and the main event, \u201cTakin\u2019 Care Of Business\u201d that included a <strong><em>\u201cgreat, one-handed organ solo\u201d<\/em><\/strong> by Tal and another band member <strong><em>\u201cplaying guitar backwards.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When all was said and done, my dad told me <strong><em>\u201cit was great to hear the songs live and see what they were like when they were younger versus now. They make great music.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To put a cherry on top, he noted <strong><em>\u201cthe show was way better than sitting at home and watching TV.
