The 7th Annual African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) TV Honors took place this Saturday, Aug. 23. Hosted by Jordin Sparks, \u00a0the afternoon gala was held at The Blossom Ballroom at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, where our favorite television stars were recognized for their work over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n
Winners from the evening included Harlem<\/a>\u00a0(Best Comedy),\u00a0Number One on the Call Sheet<\/a>\u00a0(Best Documentary),\u00a0Gen Zone\u00a0(Best Reality),\u00a0The Big Cigar\u00a0(Best Limited Series),\u00a0The Supremes at Earl\u2019s All-You-Can-Eat\u00a0(Best TV Movie), and\u00a0Bel-Air <\/a>(Best Ensemble).\u00a0 Sterling K. Brown won for his phenomenal performance in Hulu drama Paradise.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the things that is truly something that no one who doesn\u2019t walk in my skin will ever understand, and it happened to me this evening as well, is when folks come up to me and say, \u2018Brother, thank you for representing us the way that you do,’\u201d said Brown during his acceptance speech, via Gold Derby.<\/a> \u201cI want you to know that sometimes there\u2019s a certain sort of heaviness when you\u2019re the face of things. But when you do come up to me and you say that to me, it feeds me in ways that you can never possibly imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n Best Actress winner Kathy Bates was also in attendance to pick up her award for her work on CBS drama Matlock.<\/p>\n \u201cJoan Mulholland, one of the white Freedom Riders, said, \u2018Y\u2019all means all.\u2019 So, y\u2019all, thanks for inviting me to your cookout,\u201d Bates jokingly began before continuing,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m grateful to the nearly 200 AAFCA critics across the globe that\u00a0Matlock has touched your hearts. \u201cYour recognition is not just for me, but for the entire team behind Matlock, made up of many diverse voices, perspectives, and backgrounds. You bring the voices of the artists who are being honored here today and the ones you honor throughout the year to the public so that their truth can reach the people all over this country, all over the globe.
