But these days, the world tends to call him Drake<\/strong>.<\/p>\n And now, the Grammy-winning rapper, 38, is reflecting on his time on the Canadian TV show that first launched him to fame.<\/p>\n The trailer for Degrassi: Whatever It Takes<\/em> was released to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The documentary, which centers on Canada’s iconic TV franchise, will make its world premiere Sept. 13 at the Toronto International Film Festival.<\/p>\n Whatever It Takes<\/em> features \u201cinterviews and insights on the show\u2019s legacy from creator Linda Schuyler<\/strong>, executive producer Stephen Stohn<\/strong>, superfans, including filmmaker Kevin Smith<\/strong>, and cast of the Degrassi<\/em> universe,” according to a release via THR<\/em>.<\/p>\n Drake, one the Degrassi<\/em> household names, is included in the documentary’s trailer and notes that one of his first kisses actually took place on camera for the show.<\/p>\n “Damn, I never thought about it like that,\u201d he says in the trailer.<\/p>\n “It was kind of a whirlwind experience,” former cast member Shenae Grimes-Beech<\/strong> says of Degrassi stardom. “Probably a bit like ‘out of body.'”<\/p>\n The Kids of Degrassi Street<\/em>, the first show from the franchise, premiered on the CBC in 1982, as THR notes. The Degrassi<\/em> universe would expand to several more series as well as novels, graphic novels, soundtrack recordings and more. Besides The Beachcombers<\/em> (1972-1990) and Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em> (2015-2020), the Degrassi<\/em> releases are among the most successful Canadian television productions ever, as they ultimately gaining a devoted following in the U.S.<\/p>\n \u201cDegrassi changed the landscape of television with real, unvarnished storytelling and did it unapologetically from a teenage perspective,\u201d Lisa Rideout<\/strong>, the doc’s director, said in a statement. \u201cI was inspired by how fearless the series was in tackling issues that others wouldn\u2019t touch.
