Denzel Washington, one of Hollywood\u2019s most noted movie stars, said he no longer watches movies himself. In a recent interview with GQ alongside Highest 2 Lowest co-star A$AP Rocky and director Spike Lee, Washington claimed to not be interested in watching anything on the big screen.<\/p>\n
In the interview, Rocky asked Washington to list some of his favorite dolly shots in Lee\u2019s films. \u201cI don\u2019t watch movies, man,\u201d Washington replied. \u201cI really don\u2019t.\u201d After some laughter, the actor doubled down, saying, \u201cI\u2019m just being honest with you! I don\u2019t watch movies, man! I don\u2019t go to the movies. I don\u2019t watch movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

You know, I\u2019m tired of movies.\u201d<\/p>\n Washington\u2019s comments come shortly after the actor admitted he\u2019s \u201cnot that interested in Oscars.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve been at this a long time, and there\u2019s times when I\u2019ve won, shouldn\u2019t have won, didn\u2019t win, should have won,\u201d he said on\u00a0Jake\u2019s Takes<\/a>. \u201cMan gives the award, God gives the award. On my last day, it ain\u2019t going to do me a bit of good.\u201d<\/p>\n Highest 2 Lowest is a loose remake of the 1963 Akira Kurosawa film\u00a0High and Low,\u00a0which drew inspiration from Ed McBain\u2019s 1959 crime novel\u00a0King\u2019s Ransom.\u00a0Washington plays a music mogul who gets drawn into a cat-and-mouse game across New York City when his son is kidnapped. It also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, A$AP Rocky, Ice Spice, Dean Winters, and John Douglas Thompson. The film hit theaters on Aug. 15 and comes to Apple TV+ Sept. 5.<\/p>\n Lee recently spoke to Rolling Stone<\/a> about the film and working with Washington, one of his long-time collaborators. \u201cThis is our fifth joint together, in order:\u00a0Mo Better Blues,\u00a0Malcolm X,\u00a0He Got Game,\u00a0Inside Man, which was done \u2014 it didn\u2019t feel like it was 18 years ago,\u201d Lee said. \u201cDenzel said the same thing. But there was\u2026 we didn\u2019t have to relearn. I mean, it was like it was yesterday. So, I\u2019m just happy that we got to do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n He added of casting A$AP Rocky opposite Washington, \u201cDenzel is such a presence that people start getting weak in the knees if they have to go directly against him. That\u2019s how powerful Denzel is.\u00a0And if you don\u2019t bring it, you just gonna be overpowered.
