A new documentary mining the behind-the-scenes magic that made “Degrassi”<\/a> a teen television sensation<\/a> will premiere in September.<\/p>\n The film, “Degrassi: Whatever It Takes,” dropped its first trailer Aug. 27<\/a>, teasing interviews with some of the series’ biggest stars, including Canadian rapper Drake<\/a>. In contrast to some of the other recent documentary films that have chosen to revisit beloved teen dramas<\/a> with a more critical eye, “Whatever it Takes” seems to adopt a slightly rosier view of the series, which ran in some form for decades.<\/p>\n Beyond Drake<\/a>, no doubt the biggest star to come out of the show, the documentary will also combine interviews with stars Dayo Ade, Stefan Brogren, Amanda Deiseach, Maureen Deiseach, Shenae Grimes-Beech, Jake Epstein, Shane Kippel, Miriam McDonald, Stacie Mistysyn, Melinda Shankar, Amanda Stepto and Jordan Todosey.<\/p>\n At the start of the trailer, Drake recounts<\/a> being cast on the show, saying, “I didn\u2019t have a great time in high school. I just didn’t really fit in \u2026Then one day, my mom called me and told me, ‘You got the role.’ And I just grabbed my bag and left. And man, what a wild journey that started.”<\/p>\n Other stars then went on to describe how the awkward, coming-of-age plotlines that drove the show’s<\/a> success were also happening to the actors themselves behind the scenes.<\/p>\n “All that stuff that happened on the show was stuff that was happening to us in real life,” Ade told the cameras.<\/p>\n The back half of the trailer takes a more serious tone, focusing on how the young stars of “Degrassi”<\/a> faced mounting pressure amid the show’s success, to differentiate from their characters, and weathered more scrutiny and criticism than they were prepared for.<\/p>\n
