More than 15 years after their marriage publicly came to an end, Kate Gosselin<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about the aftermath of her messy divorce from former husband Jon Gosselin<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 and the toll it took on their eight kids.<\/p>\n

During a TikTok Live on Wednesday, August 27, the Jon & Kate Plus 8<\/em> alum, 50, recounted her own personal experience when asked by a fan how to get through a breakup, per People<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if you have kids or don\u2019t have kids, but I just, I made decisions based on how I would want to be treated, honestly,\u201d Kate said. \u201cAnd I didn\u2019t buy into all the drama and the hate, and the ugly. And I had kids involved, so I wanted it to be as peaceful for them as I possibly could.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not hire an attorney that wanted to stir up trouble; I just wanted it to be peaceful, and I wanted the best for my kids,\u201d she continued. \u201cA lot of things happened that I could not control that did not turn out well for my kids, but I did my best. We just got through it to the best of our ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, she added, \u201cIt could\u2019ve been a lot calmer<\/a> and a lot nicer if everybody was willing to play nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate \u2014 who shares twins Cara<\/strong> and Madelyn<\/strong>, 24, and 21-year-old sextuplets Collin<\/strong>, Hannah<\/strong>, Joel<\/strong>, Aaden<\/strong>, Alexis<\/strong> and Leah<\/strong> with Jon, 48\u2014 filed to end her marriage in 2009 amid visible strain on their marriage and reports of infidelity on Jon\u2019s part.<\/p>\n

Jon has long denied the claim: \u201dThe biggest misconception is the reason for the divorce is that I cheated on my wife, but I didn\u2019t,\u201d he said on a 2014 episode<\/a> of the reality show Couples Therapy<\/em>.<\/p>\n
