Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One joint that Mitchell discovered through fellow Chicago native Chance The Rapper is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ohboy.bk\/?hl=en\">Oh Boy.,<\/a> a popular caf\u00e9 run by Brendon Beck that has been <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CwTMORkvGpg\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a favorite of the singer<\/a> since it opened in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve always aimed to create a burger that feels both classic and exciting, so to be recognized by Kel feels like a real nod to the work we\u2019ve put in,\u201d said Beck, adding that it\u2019s \u201cdefinitely an honor.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the festival, they\u2019ll serve up their signature Oh Boy. Burger, a brisket and short rib patty that is double smashed and topped with onion, American cheese, a pickle and a savory in-house sauce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it hits the right notes in every bite,\u201d said Beck. \u201cThe stand-out factor is its simplicity done perfectly. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At Mitchell\u2019s insistence, fans who stay away from meat are also welcome to chow down, too, with the festival featuring feasts of vegan options as well, thanks to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nextstopvegan\/?hl=en\">Next Stop Vegan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Billing itself as \u201cthe most diverse plant-based restaurant in the world,\u201d the Dominican eatery in Brooklyn Heights will serve up its showstopping Portobello Truffle Mac \u2018n\u2019\u2019N\u2019 Cheese Burger, which <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DKsnM5qxhTU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously went viral.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Next Stop\u2019s scrumptious vegan Plantain Burger uses green plantains to hold a juicy faux patty together, coupled with all the classic fixings.<\/p>\n<p>For owner Blenlly Mena, the tasty inclusion goes beyond the realm of culinary honor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a fan of \u2018Good Burger\u2019 since I was young,\u201d Mena told The Post of the full-circle moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though we\u2019re not strictly a burger restaurant, our plant-based burgers have become a big part of what we do. We update our offerings every season, but we\u2019ve never removed our burgers because we know how much they mean to our guests.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Next Stop Vegan has a packed and stacked Spicy Oyster Mushroom Burger, filled with fried \u2018shrooms, sweet plantains, mixed greens, pickles, and chipotle mayo on a pretzel bun. <span class=\"credit\">Stefano Giovannini for N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also represented will be Long Island favorite <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nogoodburgerjointny.com\/\">No Good Burger Joint<\/a>, with owner Marcello Erickson also singing the praises of Mitchell\u2019s stacked career<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up in the \u201990s, Kel and \u2018Good Burger\u2019 were such an important part of our childhood, so being part of this now feels full circle,\u201d he told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll serve up their satisfying signature smash creation on a potato bun, typically served at their outposts in Rockville Center and Baldwin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were beyond excited to be chosen,\u201d Erickson gushed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Next Stop Vegan also serves a Pl\u00e1tano Power Burger that uses plantain bread in lieu of a roll. <span class=\"credit\">Stefano Giovannini for N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The West Coast will also be well represented in the form of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fatsalsdeli.com\/menu\/menu-copy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fat Sal\u2019s<\/a>, which will be trekking east to Mitchell\u2019s craving confab.\u00a0The California joint, a Mitchell fave, is known for its sky-high offerings, with fixings ranging from fried eggs to mozzarella sticks<\/p>\n<p>The festival also features a retro video-game lounge, as well as a \u201990s-themed flea market and an orange-soda fountain, a nod to Mitchell\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0lTBUDBq8xw&amp;ab_channel=RealCoolGuy\">soda-obsessed character<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bun in a million<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Thompson and Mitchell reprised their roles for a 2023 sequel (above). <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Paramount+\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mitchell\u2019s quirky burger beginnings took root when he was a teen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He auditioned for \u201cAll That\u201d<em> <\/em>when he was a sophomore in high school. Mitchell landed the part by doing the voice of his subsequent burger-loving character Ed, who was inspired by the stoner bros in the 1989 comedy \u201cBill and Ted\u2019s Excellent Adventure,\u201d starring Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe writers were, like, \u2018OK, now we gotta create a whole world around this voice.\u2019 And that\u2019s how they came up with \u2018Good Burger,\u2019\u201d Mitchell recalled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell\u2019s patty-focused persona made his debut in the second \u201cAll That\u201d episode, which aired on the kids\u2019 cable network on Jan. 21, 1995.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Paired with fellow castmate Thompson, the recurring characters who worked in a fictional fast-food restaurant were an instant hit, elevated by the earworm catchphrase greeting, \u201cWelcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger \u2014 can I take your order?\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Akil Smith is a smash at the Oh Boy. restaurant grill. <span class=\"credit\">Stefano Giovannini for N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mitchell said his newfound fame was punctuated by collaborating with the guest stars of the day, including Brandy and the late performers Aaliyah, Coolio <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/08\/entertainment\/malcom-jamal-warner-did-not-suffer-in-final-moments-as-his-mom-breaks-her-silence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and Malcolm Jamal-Warner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody wanted to be in a \u2018Good Burger\u2019 sketch,\u201d Mitchell said. <\/p>\n<p>He and Thompson starred in their own Nickelodeon sitcom spinoff, \u201cKenan and Kel,\u201d which took place in Mitchell\u2019s home city of Chicago, from 1996 to 2001. \u201cGood Burger,\u201d the full-length movie based on their sketch, was released in 1997 and gained a tasty cult following.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recipe for success<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Lacey Burger\u2019s eponymous patty (front) and Rodeo Burger. <span class=\"credit\">Stefano Giovannini for N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/27\/kel-mitchell-gives-jalen-rose-the-good-burger-2-scoop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highly anticipated sequel premiered<\/a> on Paramount+ in 2023, featuring appearances by some of Thompson\u2019s \u201cSNL\u201d castmates, including Leslie Jones and Pete Davidson, as well as businessman and Dallas Mavericks co-owner Mark Cuban, ex-NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski and model Chrissy Teigen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have no idea how much of a blessing it is and how grateful I am that people still love it,\u201d Mitchell told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it\u2019s multiple generations of fans, with parents who watched it in the \u201990s now introducing it to their kids,\u201d he said. \u201cI just did an event in Oklahoma and saw 5- and 6-year-olds dressed as Ed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell himself has four children: two in their 20s from a previous marriage, as well as 4-year-old Honor and 7-year-old Wisdom with wife Asia Lee, whom he married in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I drop them off at school in the morning, all of their friends are screaming at me to do the \u2018Good Burger\u2019 voice,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s surreal that something I did when I was a teenager in 1994 has come full circle.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cYou have no idea how much of a blessing it is and how grateful I am that people still love it,\u201d Mitchell said about the legacy of \u201cGood Burger.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">TK<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Along the way, Mitchell has become something of a burger expert. Along with testing them out, he\u2019s also a grill guru at home, with his family even harboring a closely-guarded secret sauce recipe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a couple of qualities any delicious burger must have,\u201d Mitchell told The Post. \u201cThe meat has to be juicy \u2014 when you squeeze it, that juiciness has to come out. The beef has to have a bounce because some people overcook it. It also has to be well-seasoned.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As for the bun, he swears by grilling them, though he\u2019s \u201cnot particular\u201d about them otherwise..<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really about what\u2019s inside.
