Literally everywhere,\u201d Roberts, 68, recalled to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/fox-news-john-roberts-hospitalized-with-severe-malaria-exclusive-11799757\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>People<\/i><\/span><\/a> in an interview published Thursday, August 28. \u201cI was also beset with uncontrolled shivering all during my show. Initially, I thought it was just muscle cramps and aches. But when I started shivering, I started to lean toward the flu. My rheumatologist told me to go to the ER.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Once he was hospitalized and his blood work showed that his platelets and white blood cells were both low, Roberts was diagnosed with the parasitic, mosquito-borne illness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI thought, \u2018Of course you have malaria. \u2026 You never do anything in small measures,\u2019\u201d Roberts joked. \u201cBut I was a little scared. Malaria can be deadly if left unchecked. I don\u2019t know exactly how \u2018severe\u2019 it was from a medical classification, but it sure felt severe. I have never felt that sick in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/malaria\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20351184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Mayo Clinic<\/span><\/a>, malaria is a disease caused by a parasite. Signs and symptoms typically begin within a few weeks after being bitten by an infected mosquito. Some patients experience cycles of malaria \u201cattacks.\u201d An attack usually starts with shivering and chills, followed by a high fever, then sweating and a return to normal temperature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The <i>America Reports<\/i> coanchor suspects he contracted the disease while on a July vacation in Indonesia.
