Chris Columbus, who directed the first two installments of the big-screen Harry Potter<\/a> franchise and produced the third, is less than enthused about HBO\u2019s upcoming reboot series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having already made it clear<\/a> that he wanted nothing to do with the reboot, Columbus has doubled down on his feelings after seeing images<\/a> of actor Nick Frost<\/a> as the character Hagrid from the HBO series.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid,\u201d Columbus told the The Rest is Entertainment<\/a> podcast. \u201cPart of me was like: \u2018What\u2019s the point?\u2019 I thought everything [on the HBO show] the costumes and everything was going to be different. It\u2019s more of the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that he was \u201cflattered\u201d that the series didn\u2019t feel the need to try and improve upon the original costuming. \u201cI\u2019m excited to see what they\u2019re going to do with it,\u201d he added. \u201cPart of it is sort of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu all over again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Columbus wanted to emphasize that there\u2019s no jealousy involved with the HBO reboot, saying, \u201cI\u2019m so beyond it. I did it. I\u2019ve done that, it\u2019s time to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the series does arrive, it will feature newcomers in the lead roles<\/a>: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.<\/p>\n

Also among the cast are John Lithgow<\/a> as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu<\/a> as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer, whom HBO has lauded<\/a> for her \u201cinvaluable\u201d contribution.<\/p>\n

The show is currently in production, with plans for it to premiere in 2027.<\/p>\n
