However, he\u2019s been wanting to return to his musical roots, which he does in his new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/t\/album\/\" id=\"auto-tag_album\" data-tag=\"album\">album<\/a>, <em>Piedras A La Luna<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPersonally, it\u2019s one of my most beautiful projects because it touches on my roots \u2014 it embraces banda, norte\u00f1o \u2014 done as it should be, with the traditional sound. There are songs with double meanings; it\u2019s my essence, what people want to hear from me,\u201d Mu\u00f1oz tells <em>Billboard Espa\u00f1ol<\/em>. \u201cI had forgotten how wonderful it is to make that kind of music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tReleased on Thursday (Aug. 28) under Sony Music <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/t\/mexico\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mexico\" data-tag=\"mexico\">Mexico<\/a>, the 15-track set \u2014 including the previously released singles \u201cQu\u00e9 Loco El Plebe,\u201d \u201cTe Juro Que Te Amo,\u201d \u201cLa Dama,\u201d and \u201cMi Primer D\u00eda Sin ti\u201d \u2014 evokes the sound of iconic groups like Banda El Recodo and La Arrolladora Banda El Lim\u00f3n, who recorded in the legendary Estudio Hugos in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. For this album, Mu\u00f1oz\u2019s team included people who worked in that studio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe achieved the classic touch, the roots of our music,\u201d explains the singer-songwriter. \u201cIn the end, that\u2019s where all regional Mexican artists come from. Let\u2019s say it\u2019s music made with grandma\u2019s recipe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe album, his fourth studio effort as a solo artist since departing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/calibre-50\/\">Calibre 50<\/a> in 2022, is a musical journey through the sounds of the traditional Sinaloan banda and norte\u00f1o music that he grew up with. From love songs like \u201cRaite Pa\u2019 Con Diosito\u201d with a ranchera style, to heartbreak tunes like \u201cMi Primer D\u00eda Sin Ti,\u201d where the tuba adds drama, and the norte\u00f1o track \u201cLa Dama\u201d featuring \u00d3scar Maydon \u2014 the only collaboration \u2014 <em>Piedras A La Luna<\/em> appeals to the classic sounds of regional Mexican music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe album also includes a track surprisingly inspired by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/gustavo-cerati\/\">Gustavo Cerati<\/a>, \u201cGracias Por Venir,\u201d whose title is a lyric from the song <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eAO7CEcCD3s\">\u201cPuente\u201d<\/a> by the late Argentine rocker. \u201c[He\u2019s] one of my favorite artists,\u201d Mu\u00f1oz reveals. \u201cI study him a lot on a musical level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere\u2019s also one cover, \u201cTe Juro Que Te Amo,\u201d made famous in the 1970s by the Venezuelan group Los Terr\u00edcolas, and which now receives the norte\u00f1o-banda treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOverall, the album\u2019s lyrics are family-friendly. Mu\u00f1oz, who expanded his fan base to include children after recording a 2023 version of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EH0Pw6OqqjA&amp;list=RDEH0Pw6OqqjA&amp;start_radio=1\">\u201cLa Nena\u201d<\/a> by Banda Peque\u00f1os Musical, along with Cosme Tadeo, has been more mindful of his lyrics since then, understanding the responsibility that comes with this new audience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe show is now a bit more family-oriented,\u201d he adds. \u201cNow I stop myself from saying something inappropriate because there are minors, and they deserve respect. I owe myself to the audience of all ages and from all places in my country. Whether it came from Joan Sebastian, God, or whoever dictated it to me, it\u2019s very gratifying because it\u2019s been a long time since I made a song with the characteristics of \u201cA La Antig\u00fcita\u201d [from Calibre 50] or \u201cComo Quieras Quiero,\u201d two tracks in that style. However, \u201cRaite Pa\u2019 con Diosito\u201d is even more retro in terms of sound. The banda, playing with all its strength, envelops the lyrics, which tell the story of a man in love asking a father for permission to date his daughter, but warns that, if he\u2019s denied, he\u2019ll take her anyway. It\u2019s a story straight out of the 1950s.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"heading larva \/\/   a-font-secondary-fancy-xl   \">\n\t\t<strong>\u201cGracias Por Venir<\/strong>\u201d\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOne of my favorite artists is Gustavo Cerati. I study him a lot musically. This phrase is from one of his iconic songs, [\u201cPuente\u201d], and it gave me the line and the idea for a song with a very beautiful metaphor. It\u2019s about the reconstruction of a human being, about when you break. It\u2019s one of my favorites. Musically, the sound of the accordion gives it the dramatic touch that makes it so special.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading larva \/\/   a-font-secondary-fancy-xl   \">\n\t\t<strong>\u201cSin Yolanda<\/strong>\u201d\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis is very much in the vein of \u201cNi Que Estuvieras Tan Buena\u201d or \u201cTe Estoy Enga\u00f1ando Con Otra,\u201d that kind of humor I played with in Calibre 50. This line from the lyrics says it all: \u201cI\u2019m going to grab whatever moves\/ Watch out because I\u2019m hurting\/ So you can take advantage of the offer\/ The ones you\u2019ve always wanted\/ Now there will be plenty for everyone and for an indefinite period of time.\u201d Musically, it\u2019s an intense norte\u00f1o track, with the accordion played the way it should be.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading larva \/\/   a-font-secondary-fancy-xl   \">\n\t\t\u201c<strong>Maldito Dinero<\/strong>\u201d\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis song talks about the two ways of seeing money: one, from the perspective of those of us fortunate enough to have a job, an income, and maybe even some extra; and the other, from the perspective of those who are chasing every peso just to get by. I think it\u2019s a very deep song. The banda sound is very special. I brought in the best trumpet and the best trombone from the old school.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading larva \/\/   a-font-secondary-fancy-xl   \">\n\t\t<strong>\u201cLejos Estamos Mejor<\/strong>\u201d\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis is a song about a love that ended and, with time, has healed, becoming something of the past, putting each person in their rightful place. The title says it all: \u201cLejos Estamos Mejor\u201d (We\u2019re Better Off Apart), each one creating the best version of themselves.
