Emma Stone<\/a> made a far-out admission while promoting her latest project at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n During a press conference for her new black comedy, \u201cBugonia,\u201d the Oscar winner had a surprising answer when questioned about one of the film\u2019s central themes: aliens.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In the film, her fifth collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos,<\/a> she plays a CEO who is kidnapped by an employee who believes she is an extraterrestrial set on destroying the earth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Asked if she thought there was an \u201cultimate intelligence looking down on us\u201d from somewhere beyond our planet, Stone cited the work of late astronomer and science philosopher Carl Sagan.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know about looking down on us, but … one of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan, and I watched his show \u2018Cosmos,\u2019 and I fell madly in love with his philosophy and his science and how brilliant he seems to be,\u201d Stone said in a clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHe\u2019d very deeply believe the idea that we are alone in this vast expanse of the universe, not that we\u2019re being watched, but that we\u2019re alone out here, is a pretty narcissistic thing to think,\u201d the \u201cPoor Things\u201d actor went on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cSo, yes, I\u2019m coming out and saying it: I believe in aliens,\u201d she grinned while waving at the room.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Flipping the script a bit, Stone then wondered, \u201cHow do you know I\u2019m not an alien?\u201d while adding that \u201cthere\u2019s a tricky aspect to that answer that\u2019s probably longer than anything that anyone would want to listen to right now at a press conference for the film.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n At another point in the conversation, the star praised \u201cBugonia\u201d director Lanthimos for his ability to think outside the box.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI love the material that he\u2019s drawn to and the worlds he wants to explore, and the characters that he\u2019s been generous enough to let me try my hand at,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n 20 Years Of<\/span>Free<\/span>Journalism<\/span><\/p>\n Your Support Fuels Our Mission<\/p>\n Your Support Fuels Our Mission<\/p>\n
