King & Conqueror<\/span> stars James Norton<\/span> and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau<\/span> are opening up about shooting one of the show\u2019s most talked-about scenes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new BBC drama reimagines<\/span> the events leading up to the Battle Of Hastings<\/span> in 1066 by exploring the friendship between Harold II and William The Conqueror before they became political adversaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

In one famous scene from the show, the two men are seen bathing next to one another, before a dramatic fight sequence breaks out when an assassin arrives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to celebrity.land UK<\/span> before the series\u2019 debut, James and Nikolaj shared some of the difficulties presented to the production team by the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe challenge for the production team was to make sure the water was warm because there was no hot water source, so they kept having to top it up,\u201d James explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nikolaj also shared: \u201cWe spent a lot of time figuring out how to do it. First of all, there\u2019s [the fact it\u2019s] a long scene, sitting in water, so, how are we going to keep the water warm? All these basic things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then also, [how to have] a fight \u2013 because the easy thing would be to just get out of the bathtub and then do your thing, right? But I remember saying, \u2018let\u2019s figure out a way to use the fact that they\u2019re stuck in these wooden bathtubs and make it exciting\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAnd then, yeah, we\u2019re naked. So there\u2019s that adding to the equation. What\u2019s not to like?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

James also clarified that he and Nikolaj didn\u2019t actually shoot the scene completely in the buff, insisting: \u201cWe weren\u2019t fully naked, I think we had some cloths on or something, I can\u2019t remember exactly\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

King & Conqueror premiered earlier this month, and has received somewhat mixed reviews, with many critics taking issue with its approach to historical accuracy \u2013 which both James and Nikolaj have already shared their thoughts on<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

All eight episodes of King & Conqueror are streaming on BBC iPlayer. The series is also airing weekly on Sunday nights at 9.10pm on BBC One.<\/span><\/p>\n
