ERIKA DOSS<\/cite><\/p>\n Spoilers for<\/em> The Summer I Turned Pretty season three, episode eight, ahead!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n For most questions I have about The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/a>,<\/em> I turn to my dedicated group chat, called \u201cthe summer we texted.\u201d Did Laurel switch Jeremiah\u2019s and Conrad\u2019s<\/a> letters on purpose? Is Jeremiah actually the victim in this whole scenario? Did Michael\u2019s sponsor this season? (I\u2019d vote \u201cyes\u201d on all three.)<\/p>\n However, after the premiere of episode eight of season three, there\u2019s one question none of us can seem to answer: What was going on with Taylor\u2019s wedding hair?<\/p>\n It was a big episode for fans of Belly\u2019s (Lola Tung) bestie Taylor (Rain Spencer), who not only took Conrad (Chris Briney) to task for messing with Belly\u2019s head, but also kind of, sort of, reignited her relationship with Steven (Sean Kauffman). During the wedding scene, however, her hair was distractingly\u2026bad<\/em>. Sorry, but someone had to say it!<\/p>\n On first watch, I assumed that her hair was wet, and that when she burst into Belly\u2019s dressing room we were meant to assume that she\u2019d been too busy tracking down AWOL Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) to finish getting ready. But then, as guests mingled before the arrival of the bride, Taylor stood at a cocktail table, her hair still looking like a bird\u2019s nest.<\/p>\n Online, I heard many theories: that Taylor was trying to wear her hair curly \u00e0 la Denise\u2014Steven\u2019s other love interest, who Taylor thought was more well-suited to his nerdiness\u2014but that she hadn\u2019t quite mastered the gel-to-curl cream ratio for her hair; that Taylor was either consciously or subconsciously attempting to ruin the wedding aesthetic, just in case her speech about Belly\u2019s codependency with Jeremiah didn\u2019t get through to her; that Lucinda, Taylor\u2019s hairdresser mom, was the one trying to sabotage the wedding by allowing Taylor to show up in public like that; that Taylor was going for the avant-garde wet look, and she thought she looked good. (The last one is the least plausible, in my opinion.)<\/p>\n Dedicated The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em> fans pointed out that in the book, author Jenny Han wrote that Taylor was having a bad-hair day\u2014and this is a character that never<\/em> has bad-hair days. The symbolism is a little over-the-top if this is the case, but then again, this is a show for teens based on a YA novel, also for teens, and sometimes the symbolism needs to be screamed in ALL CAPS. Think about it: What\u2019s scarier to a teen than a terrible hair day when photos are involved? Surely this omen means the wedding and impending marriage were doomed.<\/p>\n It\u2019s really too bad that Taylor didn\u2019t read Glamour<\/em>\u2019s guide to styling wavy hair<\/a> before getting ready for her maid of honor duties. But hey, looks like she\u2019ll have another shot.\u2026<\/p>\n
