This week, No. 1 goes to Dying Wish\u2019s latest single \u201cRevenge in Carnage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cRevenge in Carnage\u201d is the latest single from Dying Wish<\/a>\u2019s upcoming album Flesh Stays Together<\/em>, and a total pummeler \u2014 far more bruising than lead single and previous HSOTW inclusion<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ll Know You\u2019re Not Around.\u201d<\/p>\n The Portland, Oregon band rides a crushing mosh riff during the verses as vocalist Emma Boster unleashes some of the nastiest howls and snarls we\u2019ve heard all year. The chorus has a bit of clean singing to chase the harsh vox, but there\u2019s otherwise no respite until the minute-long outro. Here, Boster sings angelically over calming ambience \u2014 a sort of comedown after two minutes of carnage, as the song title itself aptly puts it.<\/p>\n Bent Sea \u2013\u00a0\u201cMy Fall\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Bent Sea are a grindcore supergroup featuring Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, Aborted vocalist Sven de Caluw\u00e9, and Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury. And \u201cbent\u201d is right; the main riff here is a twisted and gnarled piece of guitarwork. There\u2019s a big payoff when the chorus opens up into a more standard-time groove, but don\u2019t get too comfy. That sick riff comes back around.<\/p>\n Chat Pile and Hayden Pedigo \u2013\u00a0\u201cRadioactive Dreams\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Chat Pile<\/a>\u2019s upcoming collab album alongside guitar-picking wizard Hayden Pedigo<\/a> pairs two stalwarts of the Oklahoma underground music scene. While their respective music might seem disparate, Chat Pile and Pedigo meld well together on lead single \u201cRadioactive Dreams\u201d \u2014 the former getting a chance to mellow out a bit while the latter\u2019s imaginative and often instrumental Americana finally gets vocals via the ominous bellows of Chat frontman Raygun Busch. The track rises to a heavy crescendo during its midsection, but for the most part, this is a lush post-rock excursion and an effective change of pace for all artists involved.<\/p>\n
