Emma Heming Willis<\/strong><\/a> is responding to backlash over the revelation that her husband, Bruce Willis<\/strong><\/a>, lives in a separate home nearby<\/a> amid his battle with dementia.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis, 47, appeared in the ABC documentary Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey \u2013 A Diane Sawyer Special<\/em><\/a> earlier this week to help spread awareness about her husband\u2019s illness, frontotemporal dementia, which the actor was diagnosed with in 2022. After the special aired on Wednesday, August 27, Heming Willis received some criticism for revealing Willis, 70, has moved to a second residence where he received full time care.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [the special] did a beautiful job at amplifying FTD awareness,\u201d Heming Willis said in an Instagram video<\/a> posted on Friday, August 29, \u201cWhat I knew is that by sharing some of our intimate information that we would see the two camps, right. It would be people with an opinion vs. people with an actual experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heming Willis noted that seeing the \u201ccomments section\u201d about her family\u2019s setup and her husband\u2019s health highs and lows made it clear that \u201cpeople with an opinion\u201d were \u201cquick\u201d to \u201cjudge the caregiver.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the ABC special Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, which aired in August 2025, Heming Willis shared that her husband was \u201cstill very mobile,\u201d but his language was [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She said that after watching the Diane Sawyer<\/strong> special, she revisited her book, The Unexpected Journey \u2014 Finding Strength, Hope and and Yourself on the Caregiving Path<\/em>, which will be released on September 9. \u201cEveryone will have an opinion, but you have to remember that most don\u2019t have the experience to back it up,\u201d she read from an excerpt, crediting her therapist, Kathleen Murphy<\/strong>. \u201cAnd if that\u2019s the case they shouldn\u2019t offer their two cents about it and you shouldn\u2019t pay them any mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

The book quote also noted, \u201cThey aren\u2019t in your home so they don\u2019t know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics.\u201d<\/p>\n
