Since stepping onto the scene in the early 2000s, award-winning Christian rapper Lecrae has garnered Grammys<\/a>, climbed the charts, and inspired countless fans. Known for his authenticity, faith, and willingness to tackle hard topics, Lecrae\u2019s new album Reconstruction<\/a> goes even deeper.<\/p>\n After two decades in music, the Grammy-winning artist has walked through grief, healing, and transformation, and now he’s using all of it to uplift others \u2014 especially women who are searching for a new purpose in life.<\/p>\n \u201cThis album was written on the other side of transformation,\u201d Lecrae tells Woman’s World. \u201cGod is like, \u2018You were wrong, and you\u2019ve created brokenness. But I want to take those broken pieces and reconstruct it into something different and better.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Lecrae’s new album, Reconstruction, is vulnerable and honest<\/span> That idea \u2014 of rebuilding emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally \u2014 is at the heart of Reconstruction. \u201cI realized there were just different buckets that needed to be reconstructed,\u201d he explains in an exclusive interview with Woman’s World. \u201cMy physical self needed some reconstruction. My mental self needed reconstruction. My spiritual self needed reconstruction.\u201d<\/p>\n While Lecrae pushed himself to grow through therapy and a spiritual fast, he also took on the intense \u201c75 Hard\u201d mental challenge while writing the album and traveling. \u201cTry making an album and traveling and doing 75 Hard at the same time. It was crazy,\u201d he laughs. \u201cBut it was really good for me. My mental clarity was so good. It leveled up my writing in ways I would have never even imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Lecrae emphasizes that Reconstruction isn\u2019t just for him. \u201cThis wasn\u2019t like, I just got to get this off my chest,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s more like, I\u2019ve been through this, and I wish I had this album when I was going through it. I want people to experience healing.\u201d<\/p>\n That message especially resonates with women going through life transitions \u2014 like Lecrae\u2019s own wife, Darragh, who he has been married to for 15 years. \u201cShe\u2019s in that phase of her life where we\u2019re about to send our oldest off to college,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m watching her reconstruct. She doesn\u2019t have to work, but she just took on a job as a Pre-K bus assistant because she\u2019s like, \u2018I still want to invest in kids. I want to help and serve.\u2019 Her life didn\u2019t stop when our kids left the house. She\u2019s figuring out what life looks like for her now.\u201d<\/p>\n Lecrae’s wife, Darragh, helped inspire parts of Reconstruction<\/span> Lecrae poured that same honesty into vulnerable songs like Better Sober. \u201cSobriety is something that people are embarrassed to admit they struggled with,\u201d he says. \u201cBut I just realized I can\u2019t handle it. I\u2019m not good at moderation. And I\u2019m just better sober. That was tough to admit, but also freeing.\u201d<\/p>\n Some songs, like Holidays with Jon Bellion, wrestle with the temptation to escape pain. \u201cIf you invest in the hard thing on the front end, it pays off better on the back end,\u201d he says. \u201cBut if you do the easy thing on the front end, it actually takes away on the back end.\u201d<\/p>\n The album also features powerful collaborations with voices like Jackie Hill Perry<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s like a sister,\u201d he says. And Madison Ryann Ward, who he went straight into the studio with after recording a podcast episode together. Reconstruction also features Atlanta icons T.I. and Killer Mike. \u201cTo be a light and a friend and share conversations about grief \u2014 that was powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n Lecrae is also sparking big conversations on his podcast, including with former witch Angela Scafidi and actor Will Smith. \u201cIt blew my mind,\u201d he says. \u201cWhy did Will Smith choose me to have this conversation? I felt honored to sit in that space \u2014 like a bridge for faith and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n In the end, Lecrae says Reconstruction is a tool. \u201cMusic is like a story, and stories change lives,\u201d he says. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just about music. It\u2019s about giving people a resource for wholeness.
