The XXINY screening event was held on Aug. 24 to celebrate the country\u2019s 80th<\/sup> independence anniversary with a simple but genuine mission: Bring the nation\u2019s cinematic heartbeat to one of the world\u2019s cultural capitals.<\/p>\n The event is the brainchild of Anne Yasmine and Yealinzka Tinnovia, both members of the Indonesian diaspora and recent graduates of New York University who share an interest in converting \u201cwild and fun ideas\u201d into actual events.<\/p>\n \u201cWe asked ourselves, \u2018What happens if we join forces?\u2019 So there you have it: a screening event!\u201d said Anne, executive producer and film programmer of XXINY.<\/p>\n The pair wanted to show that Indonesians \u201cexist in New York\u201d, added XXINY project manager Yealinzka, with the movies\u00a0represented not just Jakarta, but the country as a whole.
