In an unprecedented turn of events, two \u201cSurvivor 49\u201d contestants were replaced just hours before filming began.<\/p>\n
\u201cSurvivor\u201d host Jeff Probst revealed that the decision was due to the unnamed players breaking the show\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n
\u201c[This] is a reminder that we take this game very seriously,\u201d Probst told Parade<\/a> in an interview published on Thursday, Aug. 21. \u201cWe want you to have a blast when you play. But we do have rules, and they have to be respected, and if they\u2019re not, we will take action. And we did, and I\u2019m sure it will send a seismic warning to future players. And I\u2019m OK with that, because we don\u2019t ask for a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n It seems that the two contestants were removed for breaking the \u201cSurvivor\u201d rule that prohibits pregaming<\/b>. Castaways are not allowed to communicate with other participants before the competition begins to ensure that everyone starts out on an even playing field. <\/p>\n \u201cAll we ask is you\u2019ve got to respect our rules,\u201d Probst told Parade. \u201cWe only have a few. But if you don\u2019t, then basically what you\u2019re telling us is, \u2018I\u2019m not a team player\u2019, and that\u2019s just never going to work for us.\u201d<\/p>\n Two alternates took the spots of the removed players. But we already had a group together, and we told her the truth. We said, \u2018We love you, we just don\u2019t have a spot. But we have this thing called an alternate.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Over the course of 49 seasons, only one \u201cSurvivor\u201d player has been ejected from the game after filming began. Dan Spilo was removed during season 39 in 2019 after inappropriately touching both a producer and fellow contestant Kellee Kim. <\/p>\n \u201cSurvivor 49\u201d premieres on CBS and Paramount+ on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
