Ron Howard\u2019s career as a director has included everything from fantasy films such as Splash <\/em>and Willow<\/em> to the Academy Award-winning A Beautiful Mind<\/em>, but there\u2019s been one constant in all of it: His wife, Cheryl, has appeared in nearly all of his scripted films in some capacity.<\/p>\n In an interview with People <\/em>magazine<\/a>, Howard, who married Cheryl during his Happy Days<\/em> heyday in 1975, said, \u201cCheryl’s either played a small part with a line or two or just been an extra in everything I’ve done since we met, going back to my Super 8 filmmaking days.\u201d<\/p>\n Spotting his wife in his films is \u201ckind of like Where\u2019s Waldo<\/em>?,\u201d he added. \u201cShe shows up. She was a nurse in Hillbilly Eleg<\/em>y<\/em>, and she was a teacher in A Beautiful Mind<\/em>.”<\/p>\n In Howard\u2019s latest film, the true crime thriller, Eden<\/em>, his wife of 50 years donned a wig and mustache to play a male food server in a scene on a desert island.<\/p>\n A glance at Cheryl Howard\u2019s IMDb page<\/a> shows she also popped up as a \u201creporter with brown hat\u201d in her husband\u2019s 1975 film Grand Theft Auto<\/em>, a girl kissing her boyfriend in Night Shift<\/em> (1982),<\/em> a science fair coordinator in Ransom <\/em>(1996), and a \u201cperson at book signing lecture\u201d in The Da Vinci Code<\/em>. She even made a cameo as a Who in the live-action remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas<\/em> in 2000.<\/p>\n Howard has described his wife as his \u201cgood luck charm,\u201d and once noted<\/a> \u201cshe has been in everything\u201d that he directed since “11th grade in high school.” He has also admitted that it\u2019s gotten to the point where he is superstitious that Cheryl must appear in at least one frame in all of his movies.<\/p>\n In 2018, Howard had a glitch while making the film Solo: A Star Wars Movie<\/em> when he had to cut the initial scene his wife was in out of the movie.<\/p>\n In an interview with Today<\/em>,<\/a> he said, \u201cIt was a little pricey. We had to green screen her into Solo<\/em>. I cut the scene she was in, and I felt bad about it. Cheryl doesn\u2019t care. But I care. It\u2019s my only superstition.
