Apple TV+\u2019s new musical competition show KPOPPED<\/em> is breaking musical boundaries, one collaboration at a time.<\/p>\n

The show premiered on the streamer on Friday, August 29, featuring a roster of both western and K-pop artists, including J Balvin<\/strong>, TLC, Boyz II Men, ATEEZ and ITZY. Each artist is given the chance to reimagine a hit song as they all compete to win the hearts of a live audience \u2014 all in good fun, of course.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not your traditional music competition. It\u2019s very celebratory, it\u2019s very warm hearted, and the big focus is the language of music,\u201d producer Moira Ross<\/strong> exclusively shared with Us Weekly<\/em>. Since the 2010s, K-pop has grown to become a global phenomenon and, with the genre\u2019s biggest artists frequently topping global charts, the creation of KPOPPED<\/em> was a no-brainer.<\/p>\n

The idea for the show was first formed in 2021, following a meeting between CJ ENM\u2019s vice-chairwoman Miky Lee<\/strong> and music legend Lionel Richie<\/strong><\/a>, producer Jake Hong<\/strong> explained to Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThanks to the unique scheduling quirks of Apple TV+, Seth Rogen is one of the few performers to have two different hit shows on the same streamer at the same time. Earlier this summer, Rogen starred in the acclaimed Hollywood satire The Studio. Now, he\u2019s back for a second season of his Apple TV+ comedy [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey were sharing a common belief in the global power of music \u2014 that music crosses cultures, languages and generations \u2014 [and] they came with an idea,\u201d he said. The team then set out to create a \u201cgreat TV show\u201d that would both bridge the K-pop world and Western pop world, sharing the incredible talent coming from each side.<\/p>\n

For Ross \u2014 who previously worked as a show runner on The Voice UK<\/em> and The Masked Singer<\/em><\/a> \u2014 the show\u2019s competition aspect came second to highlighting the ways in which music can unite people.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom my personal perspective, I know that what we wanted was a sheer joyful experience. So the competition is fun and light hearted, really, and it\u2019s just pure celebration,\u201d Ross said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was about K-pop,\u201d Hong said, explaining that their shared vision was focused on \u201ccelebrating music and creativity without borders.\u201d Ross added that it was especially important that the show remained authentic to Korean culture, inspiring their decision to film the show onsite in Seoul, South Korea.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really try to make sure we showcase Korea in a beautiful way,\u201d Ross told Us<\/em>. They\u2019re incredibly grateful for each artist that participated, and Hong joked it was \u201calmost a miracle\u201d they were able to secure such a star-studded lineup. Hong was especially excited to bring a few legacy artists to Seoul. \u201cI was actually really proud to see Spice Girls and Boys II Men come to the show. It\u2019s really exciting,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The entire process, from pre-production to premiere, took a lengthy nine months total, but Ross is confident it\u2019s all \u201chistory in the making.\u201d<\/p>\n
