{"id":1988637,"date":"2025-08-30T17:40:51","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T17:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=1988637"},"modified":"2025-08-30T17:40:51","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T17:40:51","slug":"lil-wayne-blazes-through-hits-parties-with-friends-in-phoenix-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/lil-wayne-blazes-through-hits-parties-with-friends-in-phoenix-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"Lil Wayne blazes through hits, parties with friends in Phoenix concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-article-body=\"true\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lil Wayne arrived at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix on Friday, Aug. 29, on a tour named for \u201cTha Carter VI,\u201d the aptly titled sixth installment in a string of albums sharing Weezy\u2019s actual last name, Carter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And the hip-hop legend who once famously proclaimed himself the &#8220;best rapper alive&#8221; (on &#8220;Tha Carter II&#8221;) wasn\u2019t shy about shining a light on songs from that new album, opening his Phoenix concert with the same two songs that open that release, \u201cKing Carter\u201d and \u201cWelcome to the Carter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But this year\u2019s tour is meant to celebrate all six installments in \u201cTha Carter\u201d series, the first of which was released in 2004.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>Lil Wayne setlist 2025: <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2025\/06\/07\/lil-wayne-setlist-2025\/84079585007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:All the songs at Tha Carter 6 tour launch concert in NYC;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">All the songs at Tha Carter 6 tour launch concert in NYC<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And that\u2019s exactly what he did in a fast-paced journey through his catalog, moving at a clip that found him squeezing fragments of six songs into the concert\u2019s first nine minutes, all before taking a moment to greet the crowd after a soulful \u201cMr. Carter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cHow the (expletive) y\u2019all doing tonight?\u201d he asked. \u201cYou look (expletive) amazing. I wish you had my view.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Before returning to the music, he added, \u201cBefore I get started, I must mention three very important things. No. 1 is I know that we all ain\u2019t (expletive) without each other, you dig? No. 2 is I know that I ain\u2019t (expletive) without you, you dig? No. 3 is a very important one. If you don\u2019t remember (expletive) about tonight, please remember No. 3. No. 3 is I. Ain\u2019t. (Expletive). Without. You.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The living legend made his entrance sucking on a blunt and holding a guitar, which he played on occasion. He&#8217;s no Prince, but he did squeeze out solos with a certain rudimentary charm, relying more on inspiration than proficiency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The setlist touched on nearly all the most iconic hits at his disposal, from \u201cGo D.J.,\u201d a double-platinum highlight of \u201cTha Carter,\u201d to \u201cFireman\u201d and \u201cHustler Musik\u201d from \u201cTha Carter II\u201d and all the hits that made \u201cTha Carter III\u201d his most successful album.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He also touched on nearly all the biggest singles on \u201cTha Carter IV\u201d (\u201cSix Foot Seven,\u201d \u201cJohn,\u201d \u201cHow to Love\u201d and \u201cShe Will\u201d) and dusted off a couple highlights of \u201cTha Carter V,\u201d including the double-platinum \u201cUproar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">There\u2019s more to Lil Wayne and how he came to be among the more beloved entertainers in the history of hip-hop than what you\u2019ll find on albums with \u201cTha Carter\u201d in the title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>Hip-hop and rap: <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2025\/08\/29\/nelly-concert-2025-phoenix-review\/85823741007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nelly promised a party. His hop-hop royalty concert tour lit it up in Phoenix<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And he made sure to slip some other highlights in the mix as well, from \u201cI\u2019m Me\u201d to \u201cDrop the World,\u201d \u201cLove Me,\u201d \u201cRich as (Expletive)\u201d and a handful of his biggest features, including Drake\u2019s \u201cHYFR\u201d and Chris Brown\u2019s \u201cLoyal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He even dipped into the &#8220;Mixtape Weezy&#8221; era, including \u201cRollin\u2019\u201d and \u201cWasted,\u201d and played a new song (\u201cfor the ladies\u201d), a soulful slow jam with Wayne on lead guitar, crooning \u201cWell, if money grew on trees, I\u2019d build a treehouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cTha Carter VI\u201d is not on track to be remembered as his finest hour. There\u2019s too much ground to cover to get all hung up on the here and now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But seeing him blaze through a set full of crowd-pleasing classics in short order only underscored the staying power of those greatest hits while also illustrating just how much his music has evolved in the 26 years since his first studio release, \u201cTha Block Is Hot,&#8221; all while still barely scratching the surface of his legacy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The back half of the set did drag a bit as Weezy shared a little too much of the spotlight with an assortment of Young Money walk-ons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Tyga, who filled the main support slot with an entertaining journey through his own hits, during which he asked the crowd &#8220;Are you ready for the best rapper alive?&#8221; returned to join the star and Gudda Gudda on &#8220;BedRock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Other guests included Lil Wayne&#8217;s youngest son, Lil Novi (who effortlessly rose to the occasion), rapper Jay Jones (who was great), soul singer Domiio and Lucifena, who shrieked her way through several songs that verged on screamo as fans looked on with varying levels of disinterest and bewilderment, many taking their seats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lil Wayne was able to get those fans back on their feet, though, as he brought the concert to a fiery conclusion with Young Money&#8217;s &#8220;Steady Mobbin'&#8221; and the perfect song to end the night, &#8220;A Milli,&#8221; rapped as flames engulfed an old apartment building called Tha Carter on the screen that filled the two-tiered stage behind him, the upper tier of which was occupied by DJ T.
