The downtown recreational situation could spell disaster. The thing that bothers me is if you allow one video to change your mind while the Ice House has had similar situations for years. Let’s look at everything equally.

8/30 DRINKS, LIDS AND PERMITS

Thank you, Mayor Lockley, for clarifying that you have to have a lid on your drink and a permit from the city to walk around downtown McComb. That makes us all feel so much better. (insert eye roll) Give me a break!

8/23 CITY MUST CONSIDER ALCOHOL PROBLEMS

Having listened to the discussion of the McComb City board meeting, I would like to have clarity on the entertainment district. Mayor Lockley forcefully stated he did not think anyone should drink and drive. All of the cities that I know of with these districts have hotels within walking distance, plus Uber, multiple taxi services or bus service. Does McComb have a plan to get inebriated people home? Does McComb have enough police employees to do all the paperwork for DUI arrests? Or a place to house people arrested for DUI?

8/27 911 FACT CHECK

Brandon Frazier stated Zaxby’s pays more than McComb-Pike 911. No offense to Zaxby’s, but they don’t have a medical and retirement package. McComb-Pike Central Dispatch is paid as much or more than other counties, to include Hinds County. Please provide update with facts such as current dispatcher pay and benefits. I agree the 911 center should be controlled by a board, not one entity or the other.

8/9 THE DELAWARE DIFFERENCE

A big shout-out to the Mayor and Board for this glass-like paving on Delaware Avenue. Wow — it has truly made a difference and is so appreciated! Thank you for all you do to help make McComb look and feel better!

8/16 HELP THE ANIMAL SHELTER

Monique McCullough has done a phenomenal job at the McComb Animal Shelter. I wish the community would get more involved in helping her. The city cannot fund the animal shelter fully and every little bit helps. It needs bleach, dishwashing liquid and any monetary donations to offset costs. Let’s get a school competition going to see who can donate the most from September to December.

8/6 RICHARD COGHLAN’S UNSELFISH DEDICATION

Former CD1 Richard Coghlan gone to soon. Thank you for the beautiful article on Richard. I worked with Richard for 20 years and when you’re on call 24/7 it can wear on you, but he always came in and rolled up his sleeves. His unselfish dedication to this community cannot be adequately put to paper, but for this former co-worker, I say thank you, Richard. Rest now, my friend.

8/6 A GOOD TRIBUTE

It would be nice if the city and county boards would unite in naming the currently unnamed Parklane Road fire station after Richard Coghlan.

8/20 PLEASE REMOVE TREE LIMBS

I have seen piles of limbs all over McComb that have been there for months. Why can’t this task be handled ? It has to be 1 of 3 reasons: McComb does not have the equipment to pick up limbs; The Public Works Department is severely understaffed; No accountability for the job at hand.

8/20 AND REMOVE THAT EYESORE

Former Selectman Johnson please stop. Your property on Bendat Street is an eyesore. You have had years to fix the property. Your appeal that there are far worse properties is that of a child explaining bad behavior by likening it to a child with worse behavior. Please remove that building.

8/23 PIKE COUNTY FAIR SAFETY CONCERNS

The loss of the Pike County Fair is blamed on a few bad apples. Families attend fairs all over the country for a fun time without safety concerns. Put the blame where it belongs: the present administration is the root cause and will not be held accountable. Quit electing friends by race and elect people who will be unpopular because things would change for the better. When President Trump is finished in D.C., maybe we could invite him to McComb.

8/23 CONSIDER NAME CHANGE FOR BRIDGE

I wonder if the city of McComb would consider changing the name of the Black Lives Matter bridge downtown to a more appropriate name, such as All Lives Matter?

7/30 STUDY ZONING, THEN DECIDE

The uproar over the proposed county zoning is too early in the process. Do the citizens even know what battle they are fighting? The board should be allowed to explore the possibility with a consultant. $100,000 is a rounding error. Spending money can make money. Upscale communities and counties (with higher property values) all have minimal zoning at least. The proposal will not likely affect a guy with old cars in his yard, but it will keep a meatpacking plant from popping up downwind from Lake Dixie Springs. It’s rather myopic to stop the process before it starts.

8/23 LOCAL RECYCLE BINS ALWAYS STAY FULL

What good does having a recycle program do when all the recycle bins in McComb, Summit, and Magnolia stay full?

8/27 WHAT TO DO ABOUT AMAZON DATA CENTER?

Another great column by Wyatt Emmerich regarding the Amazon data center, but again I ask, what can we do as Mississippians to stop this?

8/23 GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IN ANOTHER TOWN

Passed McComb today to shop in another town at a major grocery, home improvement and agriculture store, only to be greeted with a, “Good morning, can I help you?” and a smile. The employee led me to the correct item I was looking for and the shelves were stocked. The price of gas never crossed my mind; the experience was well worth it.

8/23 SCHOOL HEARING DEFLECTS RESPONSIBILITY

The recent articles about Betty Wilson’s due process hearing show politics at its best. She is a black woman and James Brown is a white man. Let’s find anything possible to make Mr. Brown look like the guilty one. Why is there so much focus on his lawsuit and his administrative license? They’re trying to dig up anything they can to deflect who is directly responsible for the misappropriation of funds.

8/23 MISSISSIPPI CITIES ALSO NEED NATIONAL GUARD

I’m so glad that Tate Reeves sent the Mississippi National Guard to D.C. to stop crime, instead of to local cities with larger crime issues like Jackson and McComb. He truly cares about his constituents so much!

8/23 NO MOSQUITO SPRAY?

Pike County used to spray for mosquitoes and the West Nile virus.
