A reunion with the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d cast might just be as mythical as the magical world of Hogwarts itself, according to director Chris Columbus.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Columbus, who directed the first two films in the wizarding franchise, has expressed a strong interest in directing a movie adaptation of the stage play \u201cHarry Potter and the Cursed Child.\u201d But controversy around J.K. Rowling\u2019s history of transphobic remarks seems to have cast a permanent hex over that dream.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s never going to happen,\u201d Columbus told The Times<\/a> in an interview published on Saturday. \u201c<\/span>It\u2019s gotten so complicated with all the political stuff. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from her opinion, which makes it impossible.\u201d <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker went on to reveal that he hasn\u2019t spoken to Rowling in \u201ca decade or so,\u201d adding that he has \u201c<\/span>no idea what\u2019s going on with her.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Still, Columbus says he maintains a \u201cgreat relationship\u201d with several members of the original cast, and even spoke with star Daniel Radcliffe mere days ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Several actors <\/a>have publicly condemned Rowling\u2019s comments in recent years, and more voices continue to speak out. In April, Pedro Pascal weighed in after activist Tariq Ra\u2019ouf posted a video calling Rowling\u2019s actions \u201csome serious Voldemort villain shit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a blunt comment<\/a> on the video, the actor wrote, \u201cAwful disgusting SHIT is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
