I\u2019ll admit, however, that the company\u2019s recent run of films hasn\u2019t been its strongest batch. That being said, I always get excited when I learn the House of Mouse has an original story up their sleeve, and one was just announced at Destination D23 to be part of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/upcoming-movies-in-2026-new-movie-release-dates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:2026 movie release schedule;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">2026 movie release schedule<\/a>. Let\u2019s talk out the news as well as the big question I have.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">Walt Disney Animation Announced Its Latest Movie, And It&#8217;s Not A Sequel<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This weekend, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/d23.com\/d23-event\/destination-d23-a-journey-around-the-worlds-of-disney\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Destination D23;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Destination D23<\/a> is taking place at Disney&#8217;s Coronado Springs Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and the event kicked off on Saturday morning with a presentation that included announcements. Among them was word that the next Disney animation fall release to come after <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/zootopia-2-release-date-other-things-we-know\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Zootopia 2's release;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Zootopia 2<\/em>&#8216;s release<\/a> this year will be an original movie called <em>Hexed<\/em>. Check out the first look:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Walt Disney Animation has been a fan of one-word titles in recent years, as evidenced by the releases of <em>Encanto<\/em>, <em>Wish<\/em> and so forth. Now, we have <em>Hexed <\/em>officially set to hit theaters on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2026 a few days after the release of the new <em>Hunger Games<\/em> movie and on the same day as <em>Focker-In-Law<\/em>. As announced, it will center on a teen boy who discovers he has magical powers. It sounds like the story will squarely focus on the boy and his mom as they learn more about the world of magic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>Hexed<\/em>\u2019s release is positioned between <em>Zootopia 2<\/em> and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/frozen-3-what-we-know-disney-sequel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:release of Frozen 3,;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">release of <em>Frozen 3<\/em><u>,<\/u><\/a> which is set for Thanksgiving 2027. As you\u2019ll recall, <em>Moana 2<\/em> was Walt Disney Animation&#8217;s fall release in 2024 and that contributed to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/moana-2-serves-box-office-214137346.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:the best Thanksgiving weekend ever;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">the best Thanksgiving weekend ever<\/a> before the sequel ultimately made a massive $1.059 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">I&#8217;m So Curious If Hexed Will Be Another Disney Animated Musical<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That brings me to my big question. I\u2019d love to know if <em>Hexed<\/em> will be another Disney animated musical or not. It could really go either way, considering the animation company releases a combination of adventures and musicals. However, given that a musical component wasn&#8217;t announced right away, I&#8217;m tempted to assume this film won&#8217;t be a musical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In the past five years, Disney Animation has had three musicals with a range of success. <em>Encanto<\/em>\u2019s tunes went absolutely viral, while it felt like the public was mixed on <em>Moana 2<\/em>. Also, <em>Wish<\/em> felt like it just slipped under the radar. As a fan of Disney musicals, it feels like I\u2019m going to have to wait until <em>Frozen 3<\/em> for another one of those, with no original one seemingly on the way, which is kind of a bummer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That aside, though, I&#8217;m eager to hear more about Hexed and hope it won&#8217;t be too long before updates on the film arrive.
