Alan Ritchson has spoken with James Gunn<\/a> about playing Batman in the DC Universe \u2014\u00a0but he doesn\u2019t think he\u2019ll be playing the iconic role.<\/p>\n The star of the Reacher <\/em>series revealed that he\u2019d spoken with the architect of DC\u2019s new movie universe in an interview with Variety<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n “It’s not a rumor that James Gunn is a fan,” Ritchson said. “He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman.”<\/p>\n While that sounds like a positive thing to say, Ritchson let his supporters down easily by suggesting that he won\u2019t be taking up the iconic Bat-shaped helmet. \u201cI strongly don\u2019t think that Batman is in my future.\u201d<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n Ritchson did leave the door open on whether he\u2019ll play another role in the DCU, though. \u201cI do think there is something in my future with DC,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I would like that to remain true.\u201d<\/p>\n Back in March, Ritchson had expressed his interest in playing Batman on the big screen.<\/p>\n \u201cI get asked every day if I\u2019m playing Batman,\u201d he said in an interview with Wired<\/a>. <\/em>\u201cWould I play Batman? Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? You wouldn\u2019t even have to pay me to be Batman. I would don the suit.\u201d<\/p>\n Gunn, who recently kicked off the new DCU by writing and directing the latest Superman<\/em><\/a> film, was asked about Ritchson playing Batman while on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused <\/em>podcast in July.<\/p>\n “I am a big Alan Ritchson fan, both as an actor and as a guy,” Gunn said. “Let’s just wait to see what happens.”<\/p>\n The director then made it clear that he isn\u2019t ready to cast a new Batman just yet since the DCU\u2019s first Batman project is still pretty far away in the pipeline.<\/p>\n “Sure, there’s people out there I think about, but let’s see where the script comes in,” he said. “It’s not the farthest-along thing. We have things that are much, much further along.”<\/p>\n Ritchson isn\u2019t the only actor to seemingly be out of the running for Batman.
