Thanks to a stunning day on the hill for Detroit right-hander Tarik Skubal, the Kansas City Royals could not muster any offense in a five-run rubber match loss to the Tigers, on Sunday. <\/p>\n
Skubal threw seven innings of four-hit baseball against skipper Matt Quatraro’s crew. Meanwhile, Detroit was able to score off of KC right-hander Michael Wacha four times in the fifth inning, alone. <\/p>\n
Detroit broke the scoreless drought with a Jake Rogers triple to center field, which plated two runs. That alone would’ve been enough, but the Tigers added on three more over the course of the next four innings. <\/p>\n
Overall, the Royals got out-hit 9-4, going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. <\/p>\n
After entering the day just 2.0 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the last American League Wild Card spot, Kansas City now sits 3.0 games out. <\/p>\n
