For the Royals, Lugo allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks with five strikeouts across 3\u2153 innings, throwing 85 pitches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">OLD FRIEND ALERT: <\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/tigers\/2025\/08\/29\/elvis-alvarado-learns-from-detroit-tigers-shines-with-mlb-athletics\/85857885007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Elvis Alvarado used to pitch for Tigers. Now he&#8217;s &#8216;some kind of nasty&#8217; with A&#8217;s<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"85896820007\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Paddack \u2014 who owns a 5.04 ERA in 27 starts, including a 5.40 ERA in six starts since joining the Tigers before the trade deadline \u2014 threw fewer than 65 pitches for the second start in a row.<\/p>\n<p>He needed 28 pitches for three outs in the first inning.<\/p>\n<p>The Royals scored all three runs off Paddack in the first frame, courtesy of a solo home run from leadoff hitter Mike Yastrzemski on a first-pitch fastball and a two-run home run from Maikel Garcia on an eighth-pitch hanging slider. On Isbel&#8217;s fly ball to right field, Carpenter completed a leaping catch in front of the fence \u2014 saving at least one run.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter held up his glove to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>Between those catches, Greene took a perfect route on a line drive from Garcia with runners on first and second base and two outs in the fifth inning, with Melton on the mound.
