Jude Law<\/span> is shrugging off any potential controversy that could end up surrounding his new film<\/a>, in which he depicts a younger Vladimir Putin<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Oscar nominee stars opposite Paul Dano<\/span> in the new drama The Wizard Of The Kremlin, which had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival<\/span> last week.<\/span><\/p>\n

At a press conference to promote the new movie, Jude was asked if he had any concerns about the repercussions that could come from portraying a character as divisive as Putin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Per Metro<\/a>, he insisted: \u201c<\/span>I hope not na\u00efvely \u2013 but no, I didn\u2019t fear repercussions. I felt confident in the hands of Olivier [Assayas, the film\u2019s director] and the script and that this was a story that was going to be told intelligently and with nuance and consideration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe weren\u2019t looking for controversy for controversy\u2019s sake,\u201d Jude added, insisting that The Wizard Of The Kremlin doesn\u2019t attempt \u201cto define anything about anyone\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jude went on to speak about his transformation into Putin for the movie<\/a>, noting that the director \u201cdidn\u2019t want me to hide behind a mask of prosthetics\u201d, while Metro also noted that the Sherlock Holmes star also doesn\u2019t adopt a Russian accent in the movie.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a lot of [photographic references] for that period of Putin\u2019s life, and we just tried to find a familiarity on me,\u201d he said of his transformation. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing what a great wig can do!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Director Olivier Assayas told <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/a> recently that he intends for his film to be as much an exploration of the \u201cmodern political world\u201d as a straightforward \u201corigin story of Putin\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

He claimed: \u201cWhat makes this film unique, and ultimately what fascinated me, was precisely that it showed the consequences of political evil, but also tried to portray its nature. How it works, its inner workings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wizard Of The Kremlin also features appearances from Oscar winner Alicia Vikander, Tom Sturridge and Jeffrey Wright.<\/span><\/p>\n
