Woody Allen has courted controversy over the years with his marriage, leading to rare public date nights<\/a> with his wife, but the veteran director may be courting a new level of controversy now after having something positive to say about President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n The director worked with Trump in the 1998 film Celebrity, and praised him for his demeanor on the set.<\/p>\n But while the filmmaker, who faced legal trouble in recent months,<\/a> did have something kind to say about working with the President then, he also had some harsh critiques of him as well, in regards to his pivot towards politics.<\/p>\n Allen made his comments on an episode of Bill Maher\u2019s podcast, Club Random.<\/p>\n The 89-year-old started off by admitting he was \u201cnot a Trumper,\u201d as he recalled directing him in the project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHe was a pleasure to work with and a very good actor,\u201d Allen said. \u201cHe was very polite.\u201d<\/p>\n After an interruption from Maher, apparently chiding him, Allen continued, saying he had a \u201cflair for show business.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd hit his mark and did everything correctly and had a real flair for show business,\u201d he continued. \u201cI could direct him now if he would let me. If he\u2019d let me direct him now that he\u2019s president, I think I could do wonders.
