Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson<\/strong><\/a> is turning heads after debuting his recent weight loss transformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis transformation was something I was really hungry to do,\u201d Johnson, 53, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> of his role in the new film The Smashing Machine while attending the 2025 Venice Film Festival on Monday, September 1. The WWE star plays legendary two-time UFC heavyweight champion and MMA icon Mark Kerr<\/strong> \u2014 a role that required Johnson to slim down considerably.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had been very fortunate to have the career that I\u2019ve had over the years and to make the films that I\u2019ve made, but there was just a voice inside of me, a little voice that said, \u2018Well, what if I could do more \u2014 I want to do more and what does that look like?\u2019\u201d Johnson added on Monday.<\/p>\n

The work the actor put into transforming his body for the role \u2014 the first dramatic role of his action-packed career \u2014 was on full display on Saturday, August 30, when he stepped out at the Miu Miu Women\u2019s Tales event at the Venice Film Festival ahead of his new movie\u2019s debut.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson has cooked up quite the transformation for his upcoming movie The Smashing Machine.\u00a0 On Tuesday, May 21, the first image from the upcoming A24 film was released, showing Johnson, 52, as MMA fighter Mark Kerr.\u00a0 The actor can be seen sporting Kerr\u2019s distinctive hairstyle while sitting on a chair in the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Johnson rocked a silk, short-sleeved blue button-down shirt featuring several colorful sketches that accentuated his slimmed-down figure. He paired the top with straight-leg black trousers.<\/p>\n

Fans of the action star were quick to comment on his shocking physical transformation on social media.<\/p>\n

While Johnson\u2019s physical transformation was shocking to many, he is far from the first actor to take drastic measures to shrink themselves for the sake of a role.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Joaquin Phoenix<\/strong> made headlines after he revealed he lost 52 pounds in preparation for his role as Arthur Fleck in the movie, Joker. Years later, in 2024, Phoenix, 50, declined to discuss his diet in preparation for his role in the sequel, Folie \u00e0 Deux.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to talk through specifics of the diet, because I just think nobody wants to hear that. But this time, it felt a bit more complicated just because there was so much dance rehearsal that we were doing, which I didn\u2019t have last time,\u201d Phoenix said at the time. \u201cSo it felt a bit more difficult, but it is safe.
