Farhana Bhula has been named director of Film4.<\/p>\n
Bhula had been serving as interim director since July following the news of Ollie Madden\u2019s departure. She will take up the role immediately, after what was described as an extensive external recruitment process.<\/p>\n
More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n Bhula joined Film4 in January 2022 and has overseen feature film projects including Molly Manning Walker\u2019s debut film \u201cHow To Have Sex,\u201d Andrew Haigh\u2019s \u201cAll of Us Strangers,\u201d plus upcoming titles such as Mark Jenkin\u2019s \u201cRose of Nevada,\u201d Oliver Hermanus\u2019 \u201cThe History of Sound\u201d and Philippa Lowthorpe\u2019s \u201cH is for Hawk.\u201d She launched Future Takes in partnership with the BFI, currently in its second iteration, to support and nurture emerging talent. Following the success of \u201cHow to Have Sex,\u201d Manning Walker reunited with the channel on her upcoming TV series \u201cMajor Players\u201d with A24, which Farhana will work on alongside the Channel 4 drama team.<\/p>\n \u201cFarhana has been a key part of Film4\u2019s success for the last three years, working closely with Ollie Madden,\u201d said Jonathan Allan, Interim CEO at Channel 4. \u201cI am delighted that Farhana will take on this hugely important role, after a rigorous and competitive external recruitment process. A prominent British film exec, she was was previously a senior development and production executive at the BFI, where she supported emerging talent and worked on a number of debuts including Charlotte Regan\u2019s \u201cScrapper,\u201d Dionne Edwards\u2019 \u201cPretty Red Dress,\u201d and Ben Sharrock\u2019s \u201cLimbo\u201d.
