It has been decades now that fans have been shipping Benson and Stabler, who appear to be perfect together. While fans have continued to demand something between them, things have remained strictly platonic between the pair on Law & Order: SVU.<\/p>\n
Now, Ice-T spoke about this and said something that can be interpreted as a permanent roadblock to the pair\u2019s possible romance. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, Ice-T said, \u201cNews blast, it\u2019s not real! There are writers behind it\u2026People always say, \u2018You should have done this. You should have done this.\u2019 I\u2019m like, I can only say the words they put in my mouth. I can say it my way, I can give it my flavor. But we\u2019re going for a ride along with them.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued to explain, \u201cNow, Mariska is a producer on the show, and she\u2019s also directed a few. She\u2019s not a writer, but she has a lot of power, so she\u2019s kind of steering the boat,\u201d indicating that if Harigatay wanted to, there could be some sparks flying between the pair. But he also added, \u201cI don\u2019t know if [producer] Dick Wolf wants them to ever hook up. Maybe he just wants to keep dangling that carrot. Keep the seasons coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n So, if that is the case, this cycle of \u201ccould have beens\u201d could go on for many seasons to come, arriving nowhere. But Ice-T himself doesn\u2019t think this should be the case. He said, \u201cI don\u2019t know, that\u2019s just the show. I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on. But I\u2019ve been telling them to get a room for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n The creators scrapped a recently planned kiss between the pair because it was not working. But on the positive side, Mariska Hargitay<\/a> referred to Benson and Stabler as \u201csoulmates, in a way\u201d in a previous interview<\/a>. This indicates that there may be a time in the future when they do end up together.<\/p>\n Anyhow, nothing is happening right away.
