\u201cOscar didn\u2019t have a storyline that felt like it would be ruined by reopening. He actually managed to keep his dignity through nine years [on \u2018The Office\u2019] and didn\u2019t really come to any kind of big conclusion. We decided to include him, so there would be a true spinoff,\u201d Daniels explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBut other than that, it\u2019s really a new mockumentary that\u2019s connected through the notion of paper, but is not repeating any of the characters or jokes of the original.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u201cParks and Recreation\u201d creator added that they\u2019re trying to be \u201crespectful\u201d of the original show and \u201cnot exploitative of its fame.\u201d<\/p>\n
Koman told The Post, \u201cThe contact between the two shows is the sensibility of the storytelling, not the story itself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Even though a newspaper is different from the Dunder Mifflin paper company, there\u2019s a creative throughline.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Skeptics might say it\u2019s a bad idea to create a spinoff of a beloved show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Daniels said that he\u2019s used to hearing \u201cthat kind of feedback,\u201d\u00a0 when he was adapting the original British \u201cThe Office\u201d into an American version, \u201cand when doing \u2018Parks and Recreation\u2019 after, as another mockumentary.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you listen to the kind of feedback, you do one thing and then\u2026you never get a chance to do anything else,\u201d he explained. \u201cYou have to take another swing, and not listen to naysayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
