Partnership\u00a0with National Piping Centre\u00a0removes financial barriers<\/em><\/p>\n

A new music access fund\u00a0for young musicians\u00a0has been\u00a0created\u00a0by the National\u00a0Piping\u00a0Centre\u00a0in Glasgow with funding made available by\u00a0the\u00a0Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eilidh MacLeod Access Fund will provide\u00a0support\u00a0to young pipers and drummers by removing the financial barriers to learning and encourage the aspiring musicians to progress with their learning journey.\u00a0Eilidh\u2019s\u00a0Trust, which\u00a0has made the funding available,\u00a0is the music education charity established in memory of the 14-year-old piper from the Isle of Barra who died in the Manchester Arena attack\u00a0in May 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u00a32000-per-year\u00a0access fund will be administered by\u00a0the\u00a0National Piping Centre and is\u00a0open to applications from new and existing participants, aged under 25, across selected National\u00a0Piping\u00a0Centre\u00a0programmes.<\/p>\n

Funding will be available across a range National Piping Centre Youth & Communities programmes and will be used to provide subsidised or free places and financial support towards travel and accommodation.<\/p>\n

Eilidh\u2019s Trust has made the funding available as part of its mission to support youth music education across Scotland, to reflect Eilidh\u2019s own love of music and ability as a musician with the local school pipe band.\u00a0Eilidh was also a member of the National Youth Pipe Band of\u00a0Scotland\u00a0which\u00a0operates under the umbrella of the National Piping Centre.<\/p>\n

The trust was established as a volunteer-run small grants charity in 2018 and has since distributed more than \u00a3100,000 to young musicians and music groups across Scotland, ranging from pipe bands and choirs to pianists and brass bands. This new partnership is in addition to the charity\u2019s annual funding round.<\/p>\n

Iagan MacNeil of Eilidh\u2019s Trust said: \u201cWe are committed to making music learning as accessible as possible\u00a0for all\u00a0and we understand that financial barriers are often a reason for young people to either not\u00a0embark on\u00a0their journey or dropping\u00a0out. By providing this new access fund via\u00a0a partnership with the\u00a0National Piping Centre we\u00a0can\u00a0realise that ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLearning an instrument can be such an enriching experience that offers more than music. It creates and environment for young people to not only grow their musical abilities but also develop their social and team\u00a0building\u00a0skills, as well as creating lifelong\u00a0friendships.\u201d<\/p>\n
