September is a month when summer slowly fades away. As the warm season comes to an end, things are heating up in the Eugene arts and culture scene. Myriad events are coming to town this month, ringing in the new season with fun festivities. From places to take art classes to wacky puppet shows, let this article serve as your guide to the best September events in Eugene.<\/p>\n\n

Puppeteers for Fears<\/h2>\n

A night of pizza and puppets could await you at Whirled Pies<\/a> this fall. Puppeteers for Fears, a comedy group from Ashland that specializes in original horror and science fiction rock’n’roll musicals performed with puppets, is coming to Eugene. Past shows from Puppeteers for Fears include “Cthulhu: The Musical” and “The Cabaret at the End of the World,” and this year the company is bringing “ROBOPOCALYPSE: The Musical!” to Eugene. The show will follow plucky teen hacker Jolie Daniels as she fights armies of sentient appliances she accidentally unleashed on the world.<\/p>\n

Celebrate 50 years of the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band<\/h2>\n

The Jerry Garcia Birthday Band<\/a> is celebrating 50 years of performance with a show in Eugene, and will be joined by Melvin Seals for a night at the McDonald Theatre. Rock out to iconic tunes from The Grateful Dead by one of the PNW’s favorite cover bands, with Melvin Seals joining the group on the organ, keyboard, and with vocals.<\/p>\n

Join the Springfield community for a day of food, drinks and festivities at The Springfield Block Party. Activities include a rededication of the Ken Kesey mural (with an appearance from the Further Bus), the first Springfield bull riding competition, and live music. Foodie favorites like Oakshire and The Monkey’s Paw will provide drinks, while food will be available from Charred Apizza, Lovely Cafe, and more.<\/p>\n\n

The dynamic vocalists of Windborne and the Eugene Symphony<\/a> are teaming up to bring their audiences the rocking music of Journey this September. Experience the grandeur of “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Any Way You Want It” with the power of a full orchestra.<\/p>\n

The BRiGHT Parade is Eugene’s human-powered art show: Eugeneans gather after dark to put on a glowing show of spirit and fun, moving through downtown to the beat of their own drums. The parade starts on Eighth and Pearl streets, and will walk up Pearl Street to 11th Avenue, then down Lincoln Street and back to the starting point. This year’s theme is SHiNE TOGETHER, and aims to celebrate what makes Eugene unique, amazing and awe-inspiring.<\/p>\n\n

In a Landscape: Classical Music in the Wild<\/h2>\n

Imagine listening to classical music in an arboretum instead of an auditorium. This September, audiences in Eugene will be able to do just that. IN A LANDSCAPE is coming to Eugene, bringing classic concert hall music to the oak savannahs of Mt. Pisgah for one night in September. Hunter Noack and his 9-foot Steinway Grand Piano will perform for audiences who can listen to the music through wireless headphones, wandering through the park and enjoying nature to their own personal soundtrack.<\/p>\n\n

Take a class at The Hybrid<\/h2>\n

The Hybrid is offering all sorts of classes this month. Their Creativity Caf\u00e9, which will be Sept. 7 at 1 p.m., serves as an open space for artists to join in community with each other and create. The Hybrid also is hosting a Monday night writing group called Untamed Page, where writers lower the stakes and get their creative juices flowing each week from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Hybrid also will be hosting a body-positive figure-drawing class on Sept. 9, and miscellaneous live music events throughout the month.<\/p>\n
