Channing Tatum<\/strong> made a rare comment about his split from ex-wife Jenna Dewan<\/strong>, and the Roofman<\/em> star admitted that they tried to hold on to their relationship for as long as they could before ultimately calling it quits.<\/p>\n \u201cJenna and I are good now, but it was a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young,\u201d Tatum, 45, said during an interview with Variety<\/em><\/a> published on Tuesday, September 2. \u201cWe tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cNot to go into all that. It\u2019s in the past. But it\u2019s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n Tatum and Dewan, 44, first met on the set of Step Up<\/em> and he later proposed in September 2008. Less than a year later, the two tied the knot on July 11, 2009, in Malibu, California.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m as happy as I possibly can be on the planet right now,\u201d the White House Down<\/em> star told People<\/em><\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n In December 2012, Dewan and Tatum announced they were expecting their first child together, and they welcomed daughter Everly Tatum<\/strong> six months later.<\/p>\n After rumors swirled for months that the couple had gone their separate ways, they announced their separation in April 2018.
