Ruston, La. (KNOE) – Ruston has designated a new entertainment district that includes downtown and some of the surrounding areas. <\/p>\n
This district will allow guests to bring alcohol outside as long as it is in one of a special plastic cup from the restaurants in the district and follows the restrictions in place by the city. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have our time set from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to be able to have your alcoholic beverages,\u201d Ruston Main Street Director Lauren Dowden said. \u201cWe make it to where you can\u2019t loiter in the parking lot, bring your own alcoholic beverage and pour it in there. You can only get these cups from certified establishments, including some of our restaurants here. Our businesses are not involved in it. The star restaurants, since they have their alcohol permit to already sell alcohol.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ruston Police will increase their presence to ensure the district enforces it\u2019s rules. <\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the beginning, we started working with the Ruston Police Department on this. We already have their presence in downtown, just making sure we have a safe environment for our tourists and locals who are already here,\u201d Dowden said. \u201cSo we\u2019re just going to increase that presence and they\u2019re aware of everything that\u2019s going on. So they\u2019ll know which cups to be looking for a time frame and the boundaries of the district.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dowden says the city worked with small businesses ahead of the announcement and they are anticipating an increase in customers. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expecting to see a big impact of customers strolling through our downtown, walking in, buying more things just with more foot traffic,\u201d Dowden said. \u201cWith this in place, we\u2019re expecting to see more people to come downtown and shop. I\u2019ve even had some business owners think about if someone brings in a cup having a discount at their store. Maybe 20% something like that, just to bring people in. So we\u2019re expecting to see an increase.\u201d<\/p>\n
During Louisiana Tech home football games, a shuttle will be provided for transportation from the district to the game. <\/p>\n
