As if we needed another reason to question Woody Allen\u2019s judgment, the 89-year-old director praised President Trump as \u201cpolite\u201d and \u201ca pleasure to work with\u201d on Bill Maher\u2019s podcast, \u201cClub Random<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Allen, who cast Trump in a cameo appearance for his 1998 film \u201cCelebrity,\u201d said on Monday\u2019s podcast that the then-real estate mogul \u201chit his mark, did everything correctly and had a real flair for show business.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cAs an actor, he was very good,\u201d Allen said. \u201cHe was very convincing, and he has a charismatic quality as an actor. And I\u2019m surprised he wanted to go into politics. Politics is nothing but headaches and critical decisions and agony.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s latest critical decision as commander in chief? Heavy hangs the crown \u2026<\/p>\n But why would Trump even want Allen on his side?<\/p>\n Allen\u2019s legacy<\/a> as a groundbreaking filmmaker was tarnished by revelations about his personal life that emerged in the 1990s. It was revealed that he had a romantic relationship with his then-girlfriend Mia Farrow\u2019s adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. He was 56. She was 21. Allen\u2019s own daughter with Farrow, Dylan, would later accuse Allen of sexually molesting her, claims that he denies. Even if fans want to separate the artist from news stories about the man, it\u2019s difficult given that Allen\u2019s films often reflect an obsession with youthful \u2014 and occasionally underage \u2014 women.<\/p>\n The president has been doing everything possible to bury his past associations with older men who allegedly prey on younger women. There\u2019s this guy named Jeffrey Epstein <\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n There\u2019s obviously no comparing Allen to the late convicted child sex trafficker, but why even open the door to such scrutiny? It\u2019s because a compliment is a compliment, and there are so few of them coming from Hollywood that Trump could not help but copy, paste and post.<\/p>\n More troubling is that Allen now joins Maher in normalizing America\u2019s first president who operates like a dictator, describing Trump as \u201cpleasant,\u201d \u201cgracious,\u201d even \u201cmeasured.\u201d Meanwhile, the White House is siccing militarized forces on American cities<\/a>, trying to deport planeloads of children<\/a> and attempting to rig the 2026 midterms<\/a>.<\/p>\n Maher responded to Allen\u2019s flattering words about Trump with mock outrage: \u201cHow dare you?!\u201d<\/p>\n Allen may have surprised listeners who know the director as a master satirist of the flawed personality, but Maher was right on brand. The 69-year-old has forged a career playing to all sides of contentious issues while sincerely committing to none.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, the host of HBO\u2019s \u201cReal Time With Bill Maher,\u201d who describes himself as a \u201cvocal critic<\/a>\u201d of Trump, caught flak for dining with the president at Mar-a-Lago, then later describing Trump as \u201cgracious,\u201d \u201cnot fake\u201d and that \u201ceverything I\u2019ve ever not liked about him was absent.\u201d He praised Trump for being \u201cmeasured\u201d and not like the \u201cperson who plays a crazy person on TV.\u201d<\/p>\n Larry David, the creator of \u201cSeinfeld\u201d and star of \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm,\u201d responded to Maher\u2019s laudatory dinner recollection with a satirical essay in the New York Times titled \u201cMy Dinner With Adolf<\/a>.\u201d David wrote from the perspective of a \u201cvocal critic\u201d of the Nazi dictator who, over dinner, finds Hitler to be surprisingly \u201cdisarming\u201d and \u201cauthentic.\u201d The essay went viral.<\/p>\n During Monday\u2019s podcast, Allen counterbalanced his kind words about Trump with the revelation that he voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. He also said that he disagrees with Trump on \u201c99%\u201d of issues.<\/p>\n After wondering aloud why Trump went into politics, Allen said, \u201cThis was a guy I used to see at the Knicks games, and he liked to play golf, and he liked to judge beauty contests, and he liked to do things that were enjoyable and relaxing. Why anyone would want to suddenly have to deal with the issues of politics is beyond me.\u201d<\/p>\n Perhaps it\u2019s about seizing total power? Exacting revenge on enemies such as his former national security advisor John Bolton<\/a>? Scrubbing the Epstein files? Profiting off his office<\/a>? <\/p>\n But let\u2019s get back to Allen.<\/p>\n The director reiterated that he disagreed \u201cwith many, almost all, not all, but almost all of his politics, of his policies. I can only judge what I know from directing him in film. And he was pleasant to work [with], and very professional, very polite to everyone\u2026 <\/p>\n \u201cIf he would let me direct him now that he\u2019s president, I think I could do wonders.\u201d <\/p>\n
