Michael Stipe<\/a>, frontman of the legendary alt-rock band R.E.M., finally clarified some of the lyrics to a song that\u2019s baffled fans for decades. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Since the band didn\u2019t print lyrics on the album sleeve, the words to the song have been up for debate for years \u2015 so much so that it was once a joke on \u201cThe Simpsons.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n And that\u2019s what caught Stipe\u2019s eye on Bluesky as he shared a meme of Homer Simpson bragging: \u201cI can sing all the lyrics to \u2018It\u2019s The End Of The World\u2019 by R.E.M.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cNo you can\u2019t, Mr. Simpson,\u201d he\u2019s told. \u201cNo one can.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The stream-of-consciousness lyrics have been tough to decipher. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cEverybody thinks they know the words to this one, but after people blurt out \u2018eye of the hurricane\u2019 they tend to get lost until \u2018breathing down your neck,\u2019\u201d Rolling Stone\u2019s Andy Greene wrote in a 2011 ranking<\/a> of the band\u2019s 10 best songs. \u201cIt\u2019s really a mouthful, but somehow it became a huge hit for R.E.M.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n But now, Stipe has clarified two of the song\u2019s most debated lines: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n 20 Years Of<\/span>Free<\/span>Journalism<\/span><\/p>\n Your Support<\/span>Fuels<\/span>Our Mission<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Your Support<\/span>Fuels<\/span>Our Mission<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
