It\u2019s that time of year again when Very Large Online Platforms have to file transparency reports in the European Union that include their latest user numbers there. TikTok and Instagram\u2019s reports have been published, giving new insight into their growth in the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TikTok ended June 2025<\/a>\u00a0with 169.7 million monthly active users across the 27 EU member states \u2013\u00a0remember, the UK isn\u2019t included in this. That was up 12.8% year-on-year, with TikTok having added 19.2 million users in the territory since\u00a0the end of June 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instagram\u2019s report<\/a>\u00a0reveals that it ended June 2025 with 281.8 million monthly active users in the EU. We can\u2019t provide an exact year-on-year calculation as there wasn\u2019t a January-to-June report for 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

However, Instagram\u2019s\u00a0April-to-September 2024 report<\/a>\u00a0said it had 269.1 million monthly users in the EU at the end of that period, meaning that it then grew by 4.7% \u2013\u00a0adding 12.7 million users \u2013\u00a0over the following nine months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To boil this down: Instagram has been adding an average of 1.4 million users a month in the EU, but TikTok has been adding 1.6 million. That\u2019s not a big enough difference to close the gap between the two very fast though: Instagram still has over 112 million more EU users overall.<\/p>\n
