MANCHESTER \u2014 This September, The Wheelwrite Imaginarium in Manchester will host a month-long homecoming for “Childish Things,” an award-winning independent film by the Cassidy Brothers. Screenings will take place every week throughout September inside the intimate bookstore and theater.<\/p>\n
Several key scenes of “Childish Things” were shot in and around Manchester \u2014 including inside The Wheelwrite Imaginarium itself, where director Nick Cassidy\u2019s father, shop owner Tim Rhys, also appears on screen. Now, that same space will transform into a community cinema, bringing the project full circle.<\/p>\n
“Childish Things” follows Nick, a 30-year-old musician who, facing pressure from his girlfriend to propose, embarks on a cross-country road trip to sell his beloved blue tour bus. Made on a shoestring budget, the film has already had a number of successful screenings across the country, including a sold-out show in Los Angeles and, most recently, a packed house at the iconic Nickelodeon Cinemas in Portland, Maine. “Childish Things,” praised for its humor, warmth, and raw performances, also won the \u201cBest of Fest\u201d award last week at the Vacationland Film Festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaking this film was truly a family effort,\u201d says Cassidy. \u201cTo have shot scenes in my dad\u2019s bookshop and now return to screen the finished film in the same location \u2014 it feels like closing the loop in the best way possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Audiences are invited to stick around after each screening for a chat with the filmmaker. Movie merchandise, including original “Childish Things” t-shirts designed by Cassidy’s brother (and BBA graduate) Benny Genard, will also be available.<\/p>\n
Screenings will take place at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7, Sept. 15, Sept. 23, and Sept. 28 at The Wheelwrite Imaginarium, 106 Palmer Place, Manchester. Tickets are by donation and will be available at the door through cash payments or via Venmo.<\/p>\n
