Bruce Willis<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 wife, Emma Heming Willis<\/strong><\/a>, is opening up about the factors that went into the decision to move the actor into a separate home<\/a> after his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis, 49, said that living with FTD \u201crequires a calm and serene atmosphere,\u201d while speaking with People<\/em><\/a> on Wednesday, September 3. She also explained that she wanted their two daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, to have a sense of normalcy in their lives, prompting the decision to relocate Willis, 70, into a second home<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs \u2026 The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing,\u201d Heming Willis told the outlet.<\/p>\n

According to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, \u201cLoud sounds, bright lights, or hectic group activities can be overwhelming for somebody with FTD, which in turn can trigger hostile behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heming Willis said the result of the move<\/a> has been an environment that\u2019s more tranquil for the family as they continue to navigate Willis\u2019 condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now,\u201d she maintained.<\/p>\n

While Heming Willis admitted it was \u201cheartbreaking\u201d to have her family live in separate homes, the decision has \u201copened up Bruce\u2019s world.\u201d She encouraged others to do \u201cwhat\u2019s right for your family dynamic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heming Willis added that Mabel and Evelyn have left many belongings at Willis\u2019 home for them to continue to create memories with their dad.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get to go back to being Bruce\u2019s wife and the kids can be kids and there\u2019s beauty in that and I\u2019m so grateful for that,\u201d Heming Willis shared. \u201cI just get to be with him in these moments and that is because of this set up we have. Willis receives round-the-clock care from an at-home care team hired by Heming Willis. He also gets regular visits from friends.<\/p>\n

FTD has no cure and \u201cinevitably gets worse over time and the speed of decline differs from person to person,\u201d per the Alzheimer\u2019s Association. The disease can \u201cvariably cause deterioration in behavior, personality and\/or difficulty with producing or comprehending language.\u201d<\/p>\n
