But Seoul-based JYP Entertainment\u2019s next global superstar might well be less human than their predecessors.<\/p>\n

JYP, currently riding high on the success of Stray Kids<\/strong>, is hiring staff with expertise in artificial intelligence, motion graphics, Unreal Engine, and more as it prepares to develop an \u201cunprecedented<\/a>\u201d AI artist through its tech business unit, Blue Garage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Job ads listed on the company\u2019s website indicate that JYP is recruiting for multiple roles for its AI Artist project, from Creative Production and Product Design roles to LLM Engineers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is also hiring for\u00a0positions such as\u00a03D Art Director<\/a>,\u00a0Character Interaction Engineer,\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Character Modeler<\/a>, all of which, according to the ads, require an understanding of Unreal Engine, the powerful gaming engine and 3D creation tool developed by\u00a0Epic Games,<\/a><\/span>\u00a0the gaming giant behind Fortnite.<\/p>\n

JYP\u2019s move comes as virtual performers gain momentum both in South Korea and in the wider global entertainment industry<\/a>. JYP rival HYBE<\/b> introduced<\/a> virtual pop group SYNDI8<\/b> in July 2024, with their voices developed using AI technology from Supertone<\/b>, which is majority-owned by HYBE, after it struck\u00a0a $32 million deal<\/a> for the startup in 2023.<\/p>\n

Separately, SM<\/b> Entertainment<\/b> debuted<\/a> a virtual artist called naevis last year.<\/p>\n

The news also comes hot on the heels of the global rise of a fictional K-pop girl group called HUNTR\/X,<\/strong> from\u00a0animated movie Kpop Demon Hunters,<\/strong> which has become\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u2018 most watched movie of all time.<\/p>\n

HUNTR\/X\u2019s Golden, <\/em>taken from the movie\u2019s soundtrack, has just topped the US Hot 100<\/a> for a third week, with four tracks from the film in total present in the US Top 10. The soundtrack also continues to dominate Spotify<\/a> charts, with the Top 5 of the platform\u2019s US Daily and Weekly chart currently occupied by music from the film.<\/p>\n

JYP\u2019s virtual artist bet arrives amid significant global success with one of its flagship groups, Stray<\/span>\u00a0Kids.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The band\u2019s <\/span>latest album KARMA<\/em><\/strong> just debuted at No.1 on the Billboard<\/a> 200, <\/strong>with the group\u00a0claimed to be the first act in history to have their first seven Billboard 200 entries debut at No.1.<\/p>\n

They are also claimed to have\u00a0broken the record for\u00a0the most No.1 albums on the Billboard 200 by any K-Pop act of all time.<\/p>\n

Released on August 22 via\u00a0JYP Entertainment\u00a0\/\u00a0IMPERIAL\u00a0\/\u00a0Republic Records, KARMA<\/em>\u00a0sold\u00a0313,000 units<\/strong> in the US during the first week.<\/wbr><\/p>\n

Globally,\u00a0KARMA<\/em> topped charts around the world as well, debuting at No.1 on the album charts in France<\/strong>,\u00a0Germany<\/strong>,\u00a0and Belgium<\/strong>, and\u00a0Top 5 <\/strong>in Australia.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0terms of the K-pop company\u2019s AI artist ambitions, JYP said in a statement cited by Korean media that it wants to answer the following question<\/span>: \u201cCan AI become a being that calls fans\u2019 names and interacts with them?\u201d<\/p>\n
